A10s were one of the jet aircraft I grew up with. Mid-Warwickshire was alive with jet noise during the late 70s, 80s and early 90s and the A10 was particurlay characteristic. I can still remember having a lesson in G2 at school during a hot day in c.1990 with all the windows open. The USAF had taken it upon themselves to repeatedly do robits and wingovers around our school. Needless to say, one couldn’t here what the teacher was saying.
“Dear Mr President, you ruined my education because of….” 😉

I know this is getting into AFM territory, but I’m still amazed that the 2seat variant wasn’t produced in larger numbers.
Maybe we’d have more tanks left if it had been.

What a fantastic idea, A10’s have much more character than an egg beater ever will.

I know they are paraffin-burners, but they do have straight wings and tend to gambol around the sky in a playful manner rather than setting off in purposeful straight lines towards the horizon.
I think we should have them back, even if this means scrapping the entire RAF and Army helicopter fleet.

A10s always make me feel old. As a kid I was at Bentwa ters when the first three arrived (thanks dad) and now A10s are in museums all over the states and also at Duxford (the only preserved A10 outside the US?)
Don’t suppose I’ll get much sympathy from Moggy on this score though 😀

P.S. Have had to edit this because Bent waters contains a ‘naughty’ word. I hate this ‘PC’ crap.

Yes.
Couldn’t resist stopping to watch them go off.
The noise was wonderful, reminded me of the old days at Bent Waters. F15s are great to see, but some variety is even better

We had a lovely show from these A10’s on Saturday afternoon over in deepest Norfolk. They gave us a a couple of passes at around 1000 feet followed by then returning 5 mins later playing around overhead whilst they waited their turn to go over to Mildenhall with the 2 para dropping Hercs who were gaining height overhead and the KC135, F15, F16 formation that passed 2 miles or so south of us.
Certainly brightened up the day.
