Pete,

Dunno what software you have so cannot offer tailor made help, but try reducing the resolution of the scan. Screens work at 72 dpi, so I rarely scan at more than 150 dpi (lets you blow up to double size). Try those two sizes, save as a JPEG at about 8 on the quality scale (it should ask you this when you save it). If that doesn’t work, try saving a bit lower than 8. If THAT doesn’t work erm… dunno!

A Bridge Too Far

For the benefit of AG I did take some pics last night at 19:30, though given the state of my computer they might not appear.
The poor, sweaty looking youth on the back of the truck is the Dutch driver who kept himself going all day with bottles of water and dodgy looking roll ups. The whole entourage finally left at 20:00 hours.
I was speaking to my mate Gary in the garage this morning and it appears the Dutch driver asked him for directions to RAF Wethersfield at 7:30 yesterday and Gary told him in no uncertain terms NOT to attempt to cross the bridge with his load, thats what happens when you don’t take advice from locals.
No sign of any gliders, I would have thought that the thermals would have been magic today, perhaps they are too embarrased to use their new piece of kit.
Sorry, it’s telling me that the picture file is too large, now what.

AG
This is magic, as of now, 18:15, we have the wheels of the trailer being bashed apart with oak blocks, a van parked on the green, a flat bed truck parked next to the souvenir shops, a heavy recovery vehicle parked next to the pond and a huge low loader parked on the hill causing all sorts of chaos with no end in sight, I shall now take the dogs for a walk and await the flypast and yes, I did buy a pint at the Fox.

😀 Wish I was there! I did ring Dad and see if he wanted to take a look, but he’s staying in the cool. Can you blame him!

AG

Tell him not to bother, it’s like a furnace here, it’s just done me in to walk 100 yards to see the next laughable events.
The traffic, particularly the school buses, are in chaos, a flat bed truck with hydraulic crane has arrived and parked on the little green opposite the Causeway tea shop amidst much arm waving and Dutch expletives, but I don’t know what that is going to achieve.
I keep waiting for Wethersfield to launch 6 gliders at once and do a fly past.

For the benefit of AG, over 8 hours on and it’s still slewed across Stambourne Rd and the poor sweating Dutchmen have resorted to trying to straighten the wheels with crowbars.
I expect the RAF are already trying out their tractor delivered new toy and left them to it, pleased to see it’s not just me that calls the local rag the Brainless and Witless, no doubt the reporters are preparing their next front page headline with regard to one of the street lights going out on Coggeshall Road or if we’re really lucky, some local kid will be accused of accidentally kicking a football into a pensioners garden and politely asking for it back.

At least there is some sort of aviation activity still going on at Wethersfield. Ah! for those fondly remembered days of the F-100s.

Pete,

I’m having a lousy time at the moment but you have cheered me up no end. Oh, if only I were there to watch the fun!

Do you think the nice man with the camera from the Brainless and Witless Times has appeared yet? If not perhaps someone could find him? :diablo:
