Underwhelmed.
I watched this too. The aviation side was OK. On the more ‘political’ side, in terms of new evidence, the program seemed to have very little to say.

I avoided the forum and this thread until I saw the programme, I watched it this afternoon and really cannot contain my indifference! Nothing new until the story, almost tacked on to the end about the “story” planted with the French soldier during Suez.

Don’t forget the Timewatch documentary at 17.55 hrs (18.55 hrs CET)!

Dramatised documentary telling the true story of how the HMS Venturer hunted down and sank the U-Boat U864 in February 1945, the only time two submarines duelled to the death underwater.
Eyewitness accounts, secret and long-forgotten archive material and a dive into the Baltic’s frozen depths bring to life the full amazing story of U864’s last hours.

I see the BBC prefer the ‘old’ version of events and insist on calling it Operation Jericho:
To be fair they do describe it as what became known as Operation Jericho
emphasis on the word ‘became’ suggests to me that they recognise that it was not known as that prior to, and during, the event and that is was a post war application.
As an aside, I have read the new book and found it extremely interesting. I am now in the process of getting the village of Hunsdon re-educated into dropping the references to Jericho in the village history!

I’ve put on the Sky box to record, lets just see what they churn out. The new book is discounted to £25 plus P&P from some sellers via Amazon (just an FYI).

Well the production team were well aware of the true story as they hounded us for a copy of the new book’s manuscript, (until we suggested that maybe they should pay us for it..!) They also discovered the copy of the 1980’s Panorama programme which originally uncovered the true story so if they’ve gone with the old version, it’s certainly not through ignorance of the facts.

A line from one of my favorite films…
“When the legend becomes fact, print the legend”

It remains to be seen what the content might be, but the pre transmission publicity seems keen to ignore the facts and just go with the fantasy version instead. But lets not judge until we see what they have to say!

Now I Have seen it, it does seem echo the new evidence.
