In view of the comments being posted on another thread about access to a Vulcan I thought it might be a good opportunity to remind everyone of this event that starts on Saturday 14th February 2009 ….

Where, also subject to volunteer availability you might get a chance to go inside a Vulcan! 😉

The new Family Tours were mentioned in the latest issue of the member’s newsletter and these seem to be running as well as the Enthusiast Days.
The talk on site earlier in the week was there will soon be some adverts in the aviation magazines; I think the advert was used in the newsletter write-up.

Why no Hastings on the list?:(
Hi HP81,
Overnight I emailed one of the guys who’s responsible for the cockpit opening at the museum and for signing-off the volunteers who open the aircraft at Newark.
One of the main reasons the Hastings hasn’t appeared on the list for next week is its relatively remote location on the site. Any visitors would have to walk along way across wet and possibly muddy grass to get to the Hastings, while the other aircraft are accessed over concrete or a shorter section of grass.
However if more volunteers come forward the Hastings might yet be added to the list.
He did point out that the Hastings, Vulcan and Shackleton are the three main aircraft that will be used for some new pre-booked Family Tours that are being launched by the museum in the next few weeks.
One final comment that was made relates to the Varsity, which is inside Hangar 2. I’m told this normally forms part of the pool of aircraft that are open during the winter months but at the present time this is temporarily off limits while it is undergoing internal refurbishment. The last time I visited this work seemed to be coming along well.
You did ask! 😀

Newark’s website is now showing a provisional list of the cockpits that could be open next week.
For the ‘Vulcan enthusiasts’ the days to check out for possible access to a Vulcan cockpit are: February 15, 17, 18, 21 and 22. Full details here http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/newsItem.php?id=69 😀
