Hadn’t realised until recently that there was a British project to build an airfield in Thailand in the Sixties. Seems to be some controversy as to the exact purpose though, ie whether it was to have been a staging post for transport aircraft or a base for combat aircraft in the event of Britain becoming involved in the SEA war.
