Hi all
Are there any books or good publications out there (like the then and now series) that cover Operation Dragoon. Plus are there any veteran associations left. Its the 65th anniversary next year, just wondered if anyone knew if anything was planned to mark the event

It’s nice to find this thread. I’m luck to go on holiday to Le Muy every year, and have done since 1999.
Le Muy is the first town to be liberated by allied troops during Dragoon. I have done some research on the area and enjoy being part of the celebrations every August 15.
To answer the question on next year, there is work being undertaken to celebrate the 65th anniversary in style. According to people at this year’s event, there is a paradrop due on each of the main drop zones around Le Muy, but being around in 2004, this can be cancelled on the day.
If they mirror the 2004 event, it’s worth being there, it was a excellent event. As for veterans, there was only one this year but a big hand goes out to the battle reinactment guys who turn up ever year.
See you there in 2009!

Lovelly, cheers chaps, there doesn’t seem to be too much information floating around of this operation, strange is was pretty successful and allowed the capture of two major ports in France to adi supply of the allies advance – quite important quite historic, yet very little coverage.

Hello FB,
There’s Milt Dank’s ‘Glider Gang’ which devotes a chapter to this Op, and likewise in Charles Young’s ‘Into the Valley’. David Isby’s Osprey ‘C-47 Units of the ETO/MTO’ is another just off the top of my head. There’s also Ken Rust’s ‘9th Air Force at War’.

The History of the Glider Pilot Regiment by Claude Smith has a chapter on Operation Dragoon. Also Horsa Squadron by Will Morrison who flew in this operation .
