Operation Varsity Commemoration

Just a reminder that tomorrow there will be a commemorative service held in the grounds of Marks Hall. These gardens were once part of the nearby Earls Colne airfield – still in use here in Essex. From Earls Colne and many airfields in this area the Rhine crossing was made in 1945. Though the numbers of veterans attending is diminishing there is still a good turnout. At the end of the service there is a flyover usually by a civilian glider and one if not two Apache helicopters from RAF Wattisham.

There is a free mini bus service from the car park at Marks Hall, primarily for the vterans but there is usually room for others as they make several runs up to the Memorial. This is usually attended by the media and will be on the local news later in the evening no doubt.
