OpFP Resistance

I was checking the Operation Flashpoint website and I noticed they came out with an expansion called Operation Flashpoint:Resistance, Im wondering if anyone has tried it yet. The site also mentiones theyre working on a sequal: OpFP 2 . I also noted that Biohemia Interactive has made a combat simulator for the US Marine corps.

Here a few URL’s where you can download missions, campaigns and all sorts of addons (weapons, vehicles, islands… you name it and it’s there).

http://www.opflashpoint.org/
http://ofp.gamezone.cz/
http://ofp.action-arena.com/

Now remember there are a lot of missions around, and quite a few new campaigns as well. Some of them are absolute junk and/or faulty:in stead of emptying your silenced Bizon SMG, you are suddenly at your Windows desktop again…

A few good downloadable campaigns are:
Samson’s War on Terror
Samson’s It doesn’t take a hero

(both are good fun to play, but Samson is a good friend of the Bible and assumes that computer games about killing people is a good first step to becoming a christian. A bit twisted, but good fun).
Spetsgruppe Alpha 13
Delta Ops

Two excellent special ops campaigns, in the first one you’re Spetsnaz. Tough missions but very nice.

You can find all four (and a few others, which i either didn’t try or have errors) on http://www.opflashpoint.org/maps.php?pt=Campaign . Remember that these campaigns (and also a lot of separate downloadable missions) often need non-standard addons, which you will have to download as well. Usually, a readme file is attached to the campaign download to tell you which separate addons you need.

I just want to mention I started a really good combat game called Battlefield 1942. It has alot of good points like the terain is well rounded and natural looking rather that the faceted paneled look that the terain in many combat games have. The rifle recoils and you have to recover for every shot. You can drive any unoccupied vehicle you find whether its a jeep, tank, fighter plane, enemy or freindly. You spawn into a new soldier if you get killed instead of having to start the level over. It looks very good sofar.

You can command troops when you are given a command position. You can’t give your troops waypoints but can send them to points on the map or move the gunsight to a point and order them to move. The most important orders are to order them to get down or be cautious (ie “danger”) and the use of binoculars to order individual soldiers in your platoon to engage individual targets at long range.

I must admit one game I ran out into a clearing to look through the hills out to sea with the sun coming up and I forgot all about the mission and just enjoyed the view… At night in villages with street lights on is also awesome… even on an old Voodoo2.

I personally like having my troops around me so that if they spot an enemy often they open fire first so I know to drop down…. when alone my first warning of an enemy is often his first shots… and if he is close that can be all he needs. The AI seems to be able to see through smoke and trees so I play with smoke turned off to reduce their advantage.

Thanks Garry, didnt know about Red Hammer, Ill look for that. I have to totally agree with you about OpFP though, the actual infantry combat part of that game is very frustrating. I am addicted to this game because the helo flying and tank combat are on par with any game of those genres. Driving trucks and jeeps are also fun and equal to some car racing games. The layout of the landscapes is also a big plus. Fighting in forest is layed out in perfect perspective and mountain terain is unsurpassed for the realisticly large amount of area which you have to work with. But the AI of the combat just kills it, your/their troops just rush in and get shot, then your told to retreat even if only your offensive isnt going as schedule. If they provided more control over your troops with either waypoints or clicking directions on a map like C&C generals, then you might have a game I could really spend time on. Im finally getting the hang of making 400 yard shots which is what you have to be able to do to fight infantry field combat in this game.
Auther- I look forward to any URLs you can post on this game.

To be brutally honest I didn’t finish the first game… the newbie recruits around you are bad enough but when you are one of them… I kinda lost interest.
(it lacked a bit on continuity when you started out as a green recruit then you became a tank driver, and later a Spec Op guy)

Red Hammer I loved… you start out as an ex-spetsnaz trooper busted back down to lowly pleeb, with a unit commander with no combat experience.
Unusually you are not “converted” to love america… and your attitude is rather brutal… ie shooting civilians is a waste of good ammo.
Later when it appears clear that the Soviet invasion of the islands is not an official Soviet sanctioned action, but the result of a treacherous loose cannon (Guba), you switch sides and start fighting for the resistance. The only good thing about fighting the Russians is that you collect Russian weapons from those you kill so ammo supply is not a problem.
I found the missions were a bit more varied in Red Hammer too, with driving tanks, going sniping to take out three US generals, capturing a previously captured helo from an enemy held former Russian airbase to escape an island, even preparing a village with a squad of troops, landmines and satchel charges for a large scale enemy armoured attack.
Also there was the continuity that was lacking in the first game.
You started out as a disgraced former spec op soldier and have to prove yourself in many battles before you get reinstated into spetsnaz… when you start getting sniping missions… spetsnaz are expected to perform sniping and recon missions and be able to use enemy equipment and this fits in to a story line much better than jumping to different characters like in the first game.

Of course I am a little biased… }>

(I didn’t hate the first game.. I just spent more time creating my own scenarios than playing the ones that were made.)

There is a whole array of OpFP addons available, including full campaigns (some are crappy, some others are excellent) and various mods. A not-so good Vietnam mod already exists, there is one with a Chinese invasion of Taiwan (excellent weapons and uniforms, but still the same landscapes), and there are people working on a full Falklands-campaign including modified troops.

Lots of that stuff is available for free on various OpFPsites. I’ll post some URL’s later, but be warned… it will cost you a lot of time!

Haven’t got Resistance nor the Russian variant yet… for those, there are even more addons.

I bought Resistance a few weeks ago, but haven’t been able to play it yet with my computer problems…. 🙁

It adds the ability to drop weapons and store weapons in vehicles etc in caches.

The whole idea is that you are on your own and have to collect weapons and men as you go and preserve those stocks as you have no superpower support yet to back you up.

It also adds weapon types like handguns and weapons like FN FAL and the Hokum helicopter and a motorbike with a sidecar and a bus.

It is also set on a new Island.

regarding OpFp2 general consensus seems to suggest Vietnam, but I am not so certain… I personally would prefer Island based combat… say Falklands II with more balanced sides (thanks to the UKs penny pinching government?).

They seem to want to make it a surprise…
