Cost versus Information depends of what you are looking for and what period.

If you want details between 1918 and Sept 1939 then the £3.50 download is usually the best value.

For the fee you get both F540 and F541 if they exist and a variable number of pages depending in the activity of the squadron (eg 100 to 800+)

Post Sept 1939 the £3.50 download is usually for 1 month of Form 540 and £3.50 for the corresponding month of F541.

Look to down load over 7 £3.50 pdfs from one AIR 27 files then the cheaper route is to get an estimate for CD/DVD supply of the complete AIR27 file as digital images.

This is £20 per file plus £2.40 ish UK first class postage.

Typically an AIR27 file covers a year of both F540 and F541.

If you are looking for just one operation and can get to Kew then individual page printout will beat the £3.50 download cost.

A typical family research for one bomber crew at a squadron is usually 6 to 8 months of pages.

Summary.

£3.50
Comes all bundled in one pdf file
Supplied as usually either F540 or F541
Pre war can cover several years and amount to many pages in the pdf
Delivery same day

£20
Supplied as individual jpg images
Both F540 and F541 supplied
Covers 1 yesr or more period
Delivery approx 1 week after acceptance of online quote

Regards
Ross

Thanks for this.

The only snag is that it costs money.

I did a test search for 99 Sqn from 1st – 30th November 1960. The November 1960 99 Sqn. ORB runs to five pages and to download just one month’s records will cost £3.50. Multiply it by 12 for a year’s records and it’s an expensive option.

For those who can’t visit Kew probably OK, but for those who can easily visit Kew a personal visit makes far better economic sense!
