Organ donation, opt in or opt out?

This has been news in the UK recently, with the govt suggesting that we should switch from an opt in organ donation scheme to an opt out one.

As we all know, members of this board and many people we know I am sure have been recipients of organs over the years, so it is a subject that seems worth discussing.

For my two cents:

If switching to an opt out scheme would yield more organs and save more lives, then we should embrace it. If anyone has a serious objection for any reason then they can opt out and everybody is happy.

And you clearly have no respect or regard for other people’s views or feelings, JUST because they don’t match yours. http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/sign/sign0053.gif

I have plenty of regard for the feelings of others, just not for people who use endless smilis to express apparent joy at denying others the right to live.

And there it is. You dont care about anybody other than yourself. Simply put you are epitome of selfish.

I hope one day you need an organ and are refused so that a corpse can be preserved to rot naturally.

Personal capacity – not as moderator.

Calm down you two.

Being child-free I find it difficult to understand why it would make any difference whatsoever to consign a child’s body to the gas oven or the soil plus or minus the odd organ. Indeed my intuitive thought is that if my beloved child died then nothing would give me greater solace than that some other parents could be saved the grief I was then suffering.

But here somebody who has children holds a contrary view. It’s not particularly selfish, it’s just how he feels.

If somebody requires one of my surplus organs they are welcome to it. So no hypocrosy from me at all.

There is hypocrisy, because you obviously feel so strong about it as to argue with me because I won’t let anyone cut up my kids, again if you feel that strongly you would have offered your kidney as a donation already, just as you dictated to me that if I felt strongly against it I’d opt out? Oh the irony.
What about all those poor people dying in africa? they’re dying because of a self centred Western World (another thread for this debate please), there’s enough food & wealth in this world for everyone, have you given your “spare” cash to help those dying children? Do you give food to the homeless? See whilst you’re sat up there on your righteous tree you’re basically all talk 😡

By the way do you have children?

Surely though, there is some hypocrosy to your desire to preserve the state of a lifeless corpse whilst allowing the living to whither and die?

Don’t make me laugh, so my right to refuse my kids organs makes me a hypocrite? You can’t handle that can you? Who do you think you are telling me my kids organs should be removed to help the living? It’s none of your business. Quite frankly where my kids are concerned I couldn’t give a toss about anyone else. Selfish? That’s up for debate, bothered? Talk to someone who cares.

Well if you feel that strongly about it, and you obviously think I am callous & ignorant because I won’t allow them to chop up my kids why don’t you go a step further and donate one of your good kidneys? You only need one afterall……….. You don’t want to do it? Why not? Personally I find your attitude callous and ignorant for denying someone a life 😡 now who’s the hypocrite? http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/sign/sign0053.gifhttp://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/sign/sign0053.gifhttp://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/sign/sign0053.gif

If you ‘forget’ or ‘dont get round to it’ then you obviously do not feel strongly enough about the issue anyway. If you feel that strongly about it you will remember and find the time.

& whatever happened to free will & democracy, to sit there and type that everyone should have to is just the type of attitude that really ********s me off. You shouldn’t “have” to do anything, what is this? Iraq?
Why should I give blood? (I can’t because of my job) Why should my children be made to give blood? Just because they can? Come on, get real.

Sorry, didn’t mean to come accross as a Dictator. I was just getting at the fact that blood supplies are always very low – dangerously low in some areas – and that more people should give blood (obviously some are unable to).
