Just a quick note, according to Jethro’s, the 757’s that GSM will be acquiring are G-VKNB/C from Excel Airways.
Are these the one’s that are to be flown across the Atlantic? Not saying anything against older aircraft, but flying transatlantic on 1985 build 757’s doesn’t exactly seem to be the way forward!

So GSM’s fleet will consist of 737-600s, 757s and 767-300s.
GSM have/getting 737-300, 737-600, 737-700, 737-800, 757-200 and 767-300.

Well Monarch are getting another 2 or 3 A321’s for next summer, maybe this will oust the early 757s.
By: lukeylad - 10th October 2006 at 22:30
Will Monarchs 757s ever go to JET2 ?
Depends if there up for sale.
By: Flex 35 - 10th October 2006 at 22:30
Seems to be a demand for old 757’s at the mo.
Well there is a demand for 757s. The old ones must be either very cheap or the few that are available.

By: tommyinyork - 10th October 2006 at 22:22
Will XLA’s 757s operate to Banjul this winter then from MAN ?

I have flown on the 757 excel are getting rid of , they do sound dodgey on take off and both have no in flight entertainment.
Define “dodgy”…

Have you got any clues as to where the remaining 2 may be coming from, Jethro?
I have an idea, but have been asked not to publish anything yet. Not entirely sure that they have been agreed on.
By: Flex 35 - 10th October 2006 at 18:43
Whoever from GSM thought it was a good idea to acquire those particular rustbuckets hasn’t obviously got there head screwed on right.
They were dire for XL on their charter schedule; god knows what they’ll be like doing atlantics every day.

Rather far from the conversation…but can anyone imagine what it will look like in the GSM livery??? If anyone can find a pic i would be most greatful!!!

I don’t have an issue with the safety, I agree with what you said, it’s more a reliability issue I have. These aircraft are 21 years old and are going to be doing transatlantic runs on a daily basis come next summer and GSM aren’t going to have any back up if things go wrong so I’m just hoping that they will be reliable enough, given their age…
Yep, see what you mean totally. I would guess that Excel are getting rid of them ASAP due to their unreliability – certainly what I’ve observed at Gatwick is that the 757s do have a habit of being rather late sometimes.
