Could’nt resist sharing this picture of the great man in front of the Black Knight. Surely one of the pioneers of todays warbird scene in the UK.!

I have collected everything i can from personal accounts to photo’s & afew personal items with an original view of putting a book together. I wrote 25,000 words on my old pc hoping our very own JDK could use it for a magazine article when my hard drive blew up & i lost everything, haven’t been able to find the time to start over again unfortunately.

A request to anyone reading this thread. If there are any other members who have photos, momoirs or personal items of OHB’s, then do please share them with us fellow enthusiasts.
Be nice to know what is exactly out there as some of us, including me, were quite young during his time over here.. and i for one would appreciate anymore information or pics, no matter how trivial.!
cheers..;)

As far was i was lead to believe it was one of his, he had a couple like it as the person in the back of the T-33 would wear one to.
By: Wyvernfan - 16th November 2008 at 21:43
Blimey… do you know if the helmet was his or is a replica.? If its the one he actually used thats some jumble find..!
By: Black Knight - 16th November 2008 at 21:34
Picked the helmet up at tangmere aerojumble about 15 years ago & the patches were part of a collection of his personal items i purchased from a former member of his team. Also in that was the ensign he stole from the main gate at RCAF Cold Lake the day he left the service.

I also have the pack containing photos of OHB, black T33, Sea Fury and a cutaway of same.
This was given to me by my father circa 74, and i recall him saying that there was a pile of them at Dx.. just wish he had picked up more then one.!
Incidentally Black Knight, as a fairly new member on here could you tell me how you came into acquiring his helmet and badges.. are you connected or related to him in some way.?

[QUOTE=Lord Roxeth;1322329]I well remember first encountering ‘The Black Knight’ as a youth at the Biggin Hill Air Fair circa 1974. He was there with T-33 and Sea Fury. He had a stand in front of the Silver Star where his two sisters were handing out ‘Black Knight’ printed brouchures. They both seemed incredibly glamorous and they let me hold his Flying Helmet with the knights logo on it. Wow!
A brochure like this & the helmet? The patches are from his flight suit.

One from the days when the Press were allowed on the south side of the runway during airshows at Duxford.
Funny that scan from “Speed & Power” – it was edited by Jerry Scutts, my colleague on “Aviation News” – we were standing together when I took this shot:

This is a painting by Roland Wong that sold at an auction at Hendon afew years ago for £450. I believe it was commisioned by OHB, just gutted i didn’t have the funds available at the time to buy it.
Lord Roxeth, your paintings look superb, how about having prints done of them?

He did more than 1 flight but only had CAA permission for the ferry flight, he did upset the authorities by taking it up for afew joyrides.

Thanks guys.. stirring stuff.!
But now i have a question. The pic by Chris G shows the CF-100 arriving at Dx in heavy rain, yet the one supplied by Kodak of the same aircraft seems to show OHB aloft in bright sunshine. So did he get to fly it on more than one occasion, or was the airborne pic taken on an airtest? Or was the weather between the two airfields so vastly different on the day?

These are great pictures, especially OHB saluting from the Sea Fury cockpit. Splendid!
Thank you to Nige for posting. Also to Kodak for scanning that magazine spread.
Out… Roxeth

Hi all, I did post this a while ago, thought I might give it another airing here…
Going through my Mother’s attic I found a lot of old “Speed & Power” mags that, along with the later Action and 2000AD comics were essential reading for a yound lad in the ’70s. I’ve scanned this double page feature from the October 24-31 1975 edition featuring the Black Knight. Forgive the poor scanning and apols if its been done before! Check out the altitude and the amazing (I presume Biggin bump?) airshow shot! S&P was printed by IPC Press, the article was by John Rigby and (gasp) David Oliver – presumably the same one later of AFM fame.
