Ormond Haydon-Baillie

Does anybody have any video or cine film footage of Ormond performing air displays or interviews.
I know he flew his T33 along the Grand Canyon with his girlfriend filming it from the back seat.Does anyone know if this exists as i would love to see it.

Dear Mr Merry, thank you for your compassionate reply.
No, neither you nor anyone else out of this forum has intruded – and, yes, I have asked for help and I received an enormous amount of feedback and input: many thanks to all of you, your Responses have been and will be highly appreciated.
I have experienced this as a reliable forum and I never experienced any bad. I just want to keep spectators away. I´m sure you understand.
The only fact I will post is: neither OHB nor Gottfried are to blame. The crash occured due to a chain of fatal circumstances, most of them of organizational and communication nature.
Thank you.

aki1977, I hope you have found this thread some help. For Gottfried to die at such a young age must have been devistating for your family, my heart goes out to you all, he was only a few years older than me when he died.
And I hope my questions and comments hasn’t intruded into your privacy too much.

Dear Mr Merry,

no, I´ve got no idea, not at all. When I started my personal, private investigations on the accident, 31 years have already passed and I couldn´t speak to any of the official investigators anymore. More than that, I am not familiar with the procedures of the Braunschweig Bureau – would they make every report public?
However, for the sake of Mr. Haydon-Baillies and my own families privacy, I am glad as this is a very private issue.

Would there be an Italian report on the crash as I guess it was still operating on their register?

Dear Mr. Burke,
I don´t think so as I haven´t seen any hint for Italian reseach or involvement within the German Report files. If so, it would have been an matter of insurances, anyhow.

aki1977, do you know of any reason why the outcome wasn’t made public? Seems strange that the reason of a tragic loss of a 16 year old wasn’t made public.

Mr Merry, I fully agree. I´ve got the article in my files, too, and this exactly what it says. The Mainz newspapers, fortunately, were very close with information and photos about the crash.

I wonder if the outcome was made public ?

Dear trumper,
No, never, as to my knowledge. I´ve got copies of the original files which I have studied very, very carefully.

The vetern plane from WW2 after about a minute after take off plunged into the northern edge of the forest above Olm, accident cause is not know (I think that’s what it says). The rest I can’t work out.

Dear Mr. Merry,

which photo are you referring to, please? Did you know Gottfried? I am his sister and I had started this thread years ago.
Thanks,

Dear T-21,

Many thanks for sending the report and all the other documents about OHB and the fatal flight you have sent! It was good to get proof again that this is a serious forum.
The report is, indeed, a copy of the official report. Also, it was a great pleasure to me to read the articles you sent, out of aviation magazines from 1976/1977 which would never ever be available to me, otherwise…. again, many thanks for your help, for your support and all the documents you have sent. So amazing, after 31 years, still documents exist… wonderful!

In the meantime, I have studied not only the original, official report from the Bureau of Investigation, Braunschweig, but also each and every single document which lead to this final report and was compiled by the District Public Prosecution Authority which commissioned the official investigation. I have been speaking with quite a few people who are linked to this event, in one or the other way, and I now have a very exact picture of what has happend and how (beside my own memories of being there that day), and your support has been extremely helpful in putting together all those pieces. Thank you, again.

Regards,
aki1977

My German isn’t that good but the jist is,

The wreckage of the Mustang in which OHB and 16 year old Gottfried Kirchmayer died, the photo is of Gottfried, of course. I must say he was a handsome young man.

RIP both.

FAO AKI1977,
Hello I am trying to locate the report for you and another member who enquired but it is buried somewhere in my loft with loads of aviation literature. I will endeavour to find but you could try the German AAIB:Bundesstelle fur
Flugunfalluntersuchung
German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accidents
Investigation
Hermann-Blenk-Str. 16
D-38108 Braunschweig
Germany
Phone: 49 531 3548 0
Facsimile: 49 531 3548 246
l.Mueller@bfu-web.de

Just quote the date 3/7/77 and I am sure they will be able to help . My interest is that i was shocked to hear of the accident and had seen him display at Duxford in the T-33.

regards
T-21

Looks like OHB closing the canopy & ARCO’s Billy Kelly to me

It is indeed Billy and he was very surprised and pleased when I showed him the picture today. 🙂
