Folks, I’m getting reports that the Oscar’s gear has collapsed AGAIN, this time in preparation for takeoff on the 25 of February…can anyone confirm? Check this site….http://www.faa.gov/avr/aai/M-0301_N.txt…..they’re gonna HAVE to do something to strengthen that gear!

I’ve got one now…a Matchbox P-51D in Red Tail colors….very nicely done but always falls off it’s stand when I put my feet up and accidentally bump the book case! Scares the hell out of me every time!

On WIX forum, I just read that Oscar made a successfull flight in March.
Photographs are available.

Actually, the incident with the 262 was gear related. The starboard main gear collapsed due to a manufacturing-related problem, and the aircraft slewed off the runway. Makes you wonder though, with both of these accidents, as to the difficulty of making brand new landing gear. Hope they solve this thing quickly, and publicly, otherwise it’s going to be hard to move these babies… beautiful as they are.

The ME 262 was known for having bad nose wheel struts….don’t think so far it has been an issue on the new ones tho….just running off the runway!

Didn’t the new-build 262 also have gear problems? Shame, lets hope the Oscar people get it sorted soon.

I am quite a devotee of the Oscar and have never heard of a problem with the U/C. although i’m not an expert. Sounds more like teething problems associated with the new build to me.
How sad – lets hope they manage to nail the problem soon and are able to cure it easily.

If the Oscar had such accidents in wartime, I imagine it’s something to do with the design, although haven’t they improved upon the aircraft in some way?

Is it a design defect with the Oscars or just “one of those annoying things” ??
THe undercart does look spindly…..

Let’s hope it didn’t do any major damage to the superb restoration.
