Thanks. Your photos add a totally new dimension to Oshkosh! It’s like, hey, even though I was there the whole week, where was I when this was going on? You bring the action right into focus!
Great work!
Myself, the CoolPix P5100 did a terrrific job of documenting the research I was after, but certainly wasn’t up to the task of telephoto work over the runway, not that I had any aspirations of doing so, but your photos here have certainly inspired me to try. Coincidence, perchance? But I’ve recently gotten a D300. Now it’s a choice of telephoto lens and learning how to use the camera. Any recommendations for a DX lens?

AVI,

The lense is only a 400mm. Camera gear is Canon. Mainly a 20D for this trip. while I had a 40D I didn’t like teh results is was giving me so stuck with the 20D mostly.

and Hurri, I did too much walking at times. I was even contemplating going home early that day the storm arrived. I was sweltering and had one of those head aches from being in the heat so often. But when that cool front came through and so quickly, I picked up and was fine for the rest of the day.

Hi Glenn,

You really took some great photos. I didn’t manage to see the osprey or the U-2 flying, so you must have been working hard to catch the amount you did.

I liked the shot on your site showing the storm that blew by without putting rain on us. I had just been to a seminar on Thunderstorms and within 1/2 an hour I got a great demonstration on the temperature inversion. The relief from the heat was certainly welcome.

Regards,

Outstanding photos! And thanks for the link to Warbirdz! Amazing pictures!
What camera and lens did you use for these telephoto shots?

Nice photo of the Raptor, I couldn’t believe how loud the it was it’s slow flying was impressive. Thanks for posting.

I am trying to make it to Oshkosh every couple of years so I hope to be there in 2010 for a couple of days (My Wife has promised that she will go with me this time….).

Ndege

I knew an ex Cl44 flight eng – ex Cx as well until his passing a couple of years ago.

My pics I put via photobucket – just open an account there, upload images and it will allow you to create links to those pics that are suitable for use on forums such as this one.

Black Knight – yes it has an Avon 208 as was originally an F4. Ex WV386. I have a few more of the aicraft that I can post when processed.

For those of you contemplating visiting Oshkosh, it is worth bearing in mind that flying things and homebuilts are just a tiny fraction of what goes on there. There are thousands of seminars, fun workshops, shops, pop concerts, movies and parties, plus everything that goes on outside of the convention ground.

Here was one guy’s contribution to the fun. I’m afraid that I don’t know the story behind this. He had been in naval uniform earlier in the week.

PaulC,

Certainly did. The 44 that Conroy converted was remarkably clean. The dreamlifter reminded me of what a flight engineer I used to know would have called a dockyard job.

I’d loved to have had a chat to the crew, and learned more about how it flies etc., but they were not forthcoming, and didn’t seem to want to talk.

Everyone else at Oshkosh I found great, charming, friendly, and very welcoming.

The SPB is a little jewel, with as you say, a very different atmosphere.

Ndege.

p.s a review from someone on how to post piccies would be a great help.

Is that black Hunter the one with the big Avon out of a Sea Vixen? Any more pics of that?

Look forward to those – the seaplane base (or should that be floatplane) is a very different atmosphere from the main show – less crowded and lower key. Took the boat trip round to see what was there and take pics – good turn out this year but nothing out of the ordinary. Last year there was a B18 & Norseman on the water.

Did you get a close look at the rows of plates and rivets on the 747 – look like there is a new candidate for the description ‘20,000 rivets flying in close formation’

Dreamliner:

world’s biggest homebuilt?

Not as pretty as the Conroy bulit 44 Guppy that I flew in my youth.

It was due at the show on the Monday afternoon, but arrived a little late. In keeping with the whole 787 program!

I’ll post some Seaplane photos when I get home next week, but as someone has already said, the Oshkosh experience is addictive. I can’t wait for next year.

Ndege.

The heritage flights are a popular item as you never know what is going to be in it. Earlier in the week they had a ‘naval’ theme with a T2 Buckeye, F18, Sea Fury and F4 Fury – excellent. (Can provide a pic if required)

I love that shot of the 3 in formation, it really highlights the difference in size between todays fighters and the 40’s fighters

Steve

PS Unless of course the perspective is playing havoc with my eyes and the P-51 is actually one of those Ring Raiders. Remember them?

id like to go once

Not possible. It’s extremely addictive. You go once, you’ll be returning for ever. Everyone there just talks about how many years they’ve been going. I’ll post some pics later.
