Hi guys, here’s a pic of HMNZS’s Otago and Canterbury in the Willimastown docks down in Melbourne.
Sorry for the quallity, I was rather far away and had to use my big lenses to get the pic and it was sunset as you can see.
Otago is on the left of the pic and Canterbury is on the right, you can clearly see her aft ramp open and you can also see that Otago (and ultimatly Wellington) are really not that small.

For more details and a decent PDF try
http://www.akermarine.com/pdf/PV85-br-web.pdf
Far a much more detailed overview, including a complete layout of the OPVs, try
http://www.sname.org/sections/pacific_northwest/images/SNAME%20PNW%20-%20NZ%20OPV%20Presentation.pdf
I found the latter very helpful in building my 1:72 r/c derivative of the OPV

Hi,
well I think the RNZN will be a very nice round up force for a country it´s size and population.
However I think that going for less number of different ships would have been achievable and a decent goal. I would have gone for the two extra Anzacs (instead of the OPV) and participated in the RAN Armidale class procurement (instead of the IPV now chosen). The LPD is fine with me though I would have tried to cut costs (there) and tried to buy one of those small LPDs South Korea (Endeavor was build there, wasn´t it?) is building for Indonesia.
That way you´d have a four, four, four fleet (4 FFs, 4 PBs and 4 support ships).
Regards.

I’m pretty interested in Project Protector as a whole. New Zealand seems to have acquired a useful bunch of ships for a very good price, from the looks of things. I think it’s definitely an approach other small nations could learn from.
But yeah, thanks for the pic.
