I would like to see the wreckage recovered or at least the wing and tail section and made into a memorial to the Pilot who was lost in the crash.

The Starfighter wreck was recovered by the RNLAF in (I think) 2011. Quite why they waited for going on 30 years is a bit strange, but in Chris Davies’ new book Almost Forgotten:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Almost-Forgotten-Aviation-Accidents-Northumberland/dp/1445603330/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356801912&sr=8-1

he mentions that the wreckage may be going on display in the Netherlands…

Ex RNLAF and BAF T-33 at Spadeadam

In the 60th RNLAF had some T-33A on loan from BAF.
After ± 8 years the lot went back to BAF.

In the 70th 3 of those went to RAF Spadeadem Range.
C/n 5525 USAF-Serial: 51-4231/TR-231 M-44/FT-06
on jun 2002, last noted at RAF Spadeadem , Electronic Warfare Tactics Range, Spadeadem Forest as ’10’ (inventory number SPA117-7)

C/n 5527 USAF-Serial: 51-4233/TR-233 M-45/FT07
on jun 2002, last noted at RAF Spadeadem , Electronic Warfare Tactics Range, Spadeadem Forest as ’70’ (inventory number SPA117-4)

C/n 5993 USAF-Serial: 51-6661/TR-661 M-47/FT-11
last noted at RAF Spadeadem , Electronic Warfare Tactics Range, Spadeadem Forest (inventory number SPA117-8)

Is one or more of these T-33 aircraft still at Spadeadam range?
Any pictures available?

they must have left his boots inside then as they were found at the crash site not sure if his lower legs/feet were in too?? i know this sounds a quite gruesome discussion now..but what were the facts…as his reletive stated that he died on that day

F-104 wreck

The pilot may have banged out too late and too low, which is why they recovered his body the day of the crash instead of having to dig for him.
It’s probabably not a grave as such, more of a memorial.
It’s a remarkable site anyhow. It will probably not stay intact for too many years now it’s had wider publicity. Perhaps proper permission should be obtained to recover a large section complete with the national markings for a major museum and see it properly preserved – something that should have happened on many a high ground wreck in the 50’s and 60’s.

yeah…as with all graves really

i know the pilot never left the cockpit but according to the guys who went up there…looks like he’s tried to bang out but never made it…duno how much truth there is in that

yer im probably wrong about the nationality.

Nothing stopping people from visiting except the normal permission and making sure the red flags are down.

They have only expressed that nothing to be removed from the site.

the site is apparently quite inaccessable without the proper permission, obvious as its on a military range….the pilots relation actually contacted us at NEAM to arrange a visit up there in 2009 so i dont think the norweigians have stopped everyone going up there

i could be wrong…and i think it may well be dutch

Hi

I might be a little behind the drag curve here ! But looking at the link in this thread and the associated pictures ! Is this wrecked of an F104 at Otterburn, not one of the Royal Netherlands Air Force ?

The Aircraft will not be recovered and the Norwegian government have asked for the site to be left alone. A member of ACIA is in touch with pilots family and will be helping to arrange a visit to the site.

Range Meteor

Does anyone have up to date info on the status of the Meteor? Has it been scrapped and, if so, does anybody know by whom?

There are no aircraft targets on Otterburn now (although small scraps might remain where they used to be) however there are a lot of vehicles.

XG731 was a Sea Venom FAW22

You’re quite right….. I was thinking Vixen while typing, and the power of subliminal thought done the rest! 😮

Cheers,
Scotty
