Out of the ashes…Zoom to return?!

Thanks to a bit of a heads up from Gatwickjosh who gave me the link, there seems to be a rumour going around that Zoom Airlines could be about to make a comeback?

http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/4281602/

I must be honest, I was really happy when I read this the first time round, but now that it has had time to sink in properly I am not so sure it is a good idea after all…there was so much damage caused by the failure of Zoom the first time that the new potential owner will need to shell out a heck of a lot of money to be able to restore confidence in the brand for it to be successful a second time round.

Anyone else got an opinion, please post below.

So what are they buying?

A name?

Indeed. Similar to Pan Am.

James, its going to have new owners and a totally new concept. Its going to be a “normal fare” airline so to speak, not a low fares or budget. Therefore i doubt the rest of the model will follow similar lines

What was wrong with Zoom UK? It operated some of the more profitable and imaginative routes within the group, if anything i would rather Ltd. returned rather than Inc.!

Zoom never turned a profit, whether it be with a G or a C reg.

New guys just want to buy the brand, anything else will have nothing in common with the old Zoom.

The idea will fizzle out very quickly.

A name change should be a priorty.

? So Globe Span have bought what is left of the airline, which isnt really much. Just the name and livery i suppose. And you think a name change is priority!

Blimey man! – I think i will buy Oasis Hong Kong, but change the name to Hong Kong Air! lol

A name change should be a priorty.

Oh Thats a shame I was hoping for the old Zoom airlines to return but if this is not the case then I have to see what the new Zoom Airlines will be like.

I dont know really I just liked Zoom as Zoom and not have any other airline with in the group if make sense, Plus I always think that if Zoom UK was not started then zoom would still be with us.:)

I think this is good news I flew with them in 2005 and they were brilliant lets hope the new owners keep it that way, Will it be the same livery and 767 aircraft +757 ? I just hope they dont do Zoom UK again.

If Zoom is back from the dead, does that mean it’s a Zoom-bie…. 😮

I totally agree Ren Frew, especially when they bring new destination to the regions! 🙂

Having read that A.net thread so far, it sounds like it will be a different animal to the Zoom that briefly shone… Perhaps GSM are more likely to service the gap left by Zoom in the Scottish market ?

The new “Zoom” will have no involvement from its previous owners, the Boyle bros. Hugh Boyle has simple being selling off whats left of it and thats it. The whole management team will be new. I was them all the best if this materializes

I’d like to see them back. I was intending to book to fly with them to SAN before they went down. I’ve never heard anything particularly negative said about them – I don’t think they’d have any trouble attracting business as long as people didn’t expect to be let down and, let’s face it, the risk is always there now whoever you book with!

I think those of us who used the service were fairly confident in the brand. An unfortunate set of circumstances brought Zoom down, and others too. I’d be happy to see them back under better trading conditions, for those of us in the regions they made a viable alternative to the majors in terms of crossing the pond and I found them genuinely pleasurable to deal with.
