Most think it’s great and usually ask for me to email pictures I take of scenery and of them. It amazes me how few pilots actually have pictures of themselves at work. They like to have one so they can show family and friends.

Pictures at hold are hard to come by as we have so little time there. The pictures above were taken when we had a 5 minute sit.

We got stuck on the other side of the departure runway waiting for our takeoff slot to arrive. Here are a couple pictures I took to pass the time.

Alright, I didn’t have a clue what a flight attendant earned – that was just a round number guess!

Interesting. I wonder why a special lower weight version was created for the European market then. Maybe it’s a certification thing.

No, actually I’ve never been to LBA. Maybe I should use it next time! I looked at it a few times in 2000 and 2001 to try to get from IOM to Middlesbrough, but the flights were ludicrously expensive – the usual £300 for a 45 minute hop joke that BA like to pull. It was cheaper to fly to MAN and hire a Focus or something for the day, which gave the added flexibility of more flights to choose from and a car to move around in.

The operators obviously value customer relations highly to employ someone. An attendant earns what, £25,000 or something – multiply that by the number of aircraft and add 1 or 2 extra attendants and you can afford to employ another accountant 😀

Also Mongu, have you tried the new LBA-IOM run yet? Only change is it’s 2x daily JS31 with EZE as opposed to 1x JS41 with BA – More seats per day and movs i suppose!

Just wondering as this may have no Cabin Attendant onboard it

Mongu – 19 seats or less doesn’t require cabin crew in JAR states either, however some airlines will include a flight attendant for good customer relations.

Hi WD. As far as i am aware airlines such as bmi don’t use the a/c at any airports where Weight restrictions or Runway length would be a major consideration.

For example at Leeds we have based a/c of B762 and B752 size, eliminating this porblem, and the E145s operate from here to many destinations.
– Glasgow
– Edinburgh
– Paris CDG
– Brussles
– Cork
– Jersey
– Copenhagen (Soon to be)
– Pisa (weekend charter)
– Verona (Weekend charter)
– Heathrow

Non of these fields as far as i am aware would have any problems with handling a heavier version of the 145 or 135 for that fact. The smallest airport bmi operate them into i would say would be Norwich, which also proves suitable for handling a/c of the A320/B737/757 size.

Thank you very much for your help in the previous posts, very useful info!!!

A little more searching and I found some information about the EU, LU and MR versions of the 145.

The EU is a lightened version of the ER for the European market.

The LU is a lightened version of the LR for the European markent.

The MR is a LR without the fuel increase over the ER.

I couldn’t find any specifics but I’d assume the EP was just another lightened or similar version of the ER/LR family for the European market. Are a majority of the secondary market airports have limiting weight limits requiring these specialized versions?

To be honest I wasn’t aware of an EU or EP. I checked the Embraer website and it doesn’t cover their varients so I can’t be of help there. The only versions that I know of are the ER, LR and XR versions. Perhaps EU and EP are Spanish or Portuguese translations of the ER and LR. Only a guess.

The LR is the exact same as the ER with a slight increase in the engine performance and increase in fuel capacity. The engine difference won’t exist for very long as I think most operators of the ER are upgrading the AE3007A1. There is no external difference that can distinguish between the ER and LR that I know of.

The XR as I said before is an increase over the LR in fuel and engine power (AE3007A1E). It has the winglets and an enlarged belly skid plate to protect the center fuel tank in a gear up landing.

As for the reversers, they are an option just like heated seats for your car and some operators have not gotten them. The brakes are pretty good on the LR and XR so most times reversers aren’t needed anyway.

It looks good in the BMI livery too.

great pics – yep the latter was of interest to me!

Thanks for pointing out she was an XR not an LR – i thought the LR was Long range – presume the XR Is Xtra-long!

Also some 145s have Reversers on (speeking in this case of the Portugalia E145EP on lease to bmi and based at Leeds), whereas the bmi fleet don’t – these been EUs. Whats the other differnaces between these varients – i get easily confused!

heres on of the bmi ones at dusk in Dec 2001 (G-RJXD i think!)
