I love his shots aswell, but I think a take-off is best viewed from the ground. To be honest what impresses me is the idea of rising above the ground, there is almost a human element to it. From the air, it doesn’t seem a strong to me. Great technique and good photography nonetheless.

Cheers,

Sam Chui has a tendency to hire out planes or helos just for shot like this – he has done a lot of similar stuff at YSSY….pretty tip top though!

He’s the master of the take-off shot!!

EH you can’t see the flaps cause they are deployed look along the rear of the wing you can clearly see the ailerons standing out.The nose gear is hanging not compressed the wing on the right is lifting up as well with the lift being created not hanging if it was on the ground. The bushes behind the engine on the right are distorted from heat haze so is the writing on the road behind the left engine. The aircraft is easily 200-300 up look at the rudder shadow on the ground against the pole shadow and then imagine where the sun is etc etc. You lot all need to have proper looks at these amazing pictures before you ever consider panning them. I don’t care if he produces the same pictures all the time would you give out about how boring a portrait photograher was. :dev2:

Only a very good photoposition that gave me a great perspective. Apart from that, it is what must be expected of the camera and lenses he uses.

Sorry for not inciting more trouble Newforest – just that I was merely 1/4 awake when I first looked at it and it would be foolish of me not to say that I actually think it is real and is a proper decent shot!

I Take it back, after a more thorough examination of it I reckon its real – just a surreal angle

Disappointed in you Wozza after starting all this trouble, don’t you have the courage of your convictions? :p Shouldn’t the flaps be visible?

Yes I know it’s not fake, but there’s an annoying habit of whenever a unique pic is posted people think it is actually a fake instead of giving the photographer the credit he deserves, although this pic was taken by Sam Chui so it’s not too bad to not give any credit to him. 😉

LAX has an airway around 1000ft directly above the airport
for light aircraft and helicopters to travel from north to south and vice
versa. This takes them directly over the parallel runways at around 90
degrees. This seems to be the angle of the shadows, photographer in question has a GA cesna avaiable to him as stated previously in the thread.

With everyone say it looks fake now i am been looking at it for a long time and I think it is fake now and one reason for it is which way is the plane he is in flying is it going over the A330 or what.I might ask him if it is fake :dev2:

Aye – i’ll third that – its a top-down shot of a parked aircraft or the shadow is a photoshop mask -as the shadow is at the wrong angle.

+ there is no distortion – all the cars / objects which are in line with where the exhaust heat haze should be are tack sharp.

Good point, but the front flaps are deployed but it doesn’t look as though the rear flaps are deployed?

I am not convinced this is real either. The shadows just seem of. The shadow of the plane should be further to the left and above.

Exactl what I was going to say, there is no distortion to the shadow of the 330 which would occur unless the sun was directly overhead, which it isn’t from the shadows of the lamposts. Looks like the shadow has been made from a mask of the A330 in photoshop!

I’d like to be disproved though, as it looks great!
