Many of us discussed what other internet users might write after overhearing our muppetry at Legends. So, what were your aural highlights of the show?
Someone already alluded to my personal favourite:
3 P51’s coming in from the right for the first pass…… nice and fast, nice and close…..beautiful sight….. would make a superb photograph…..and the clicker-clique do their impression of a hedgehog, half a dozen large white lenses raised skyward…..just as the click-click-click of multiple motorwinds is about to commence, at that moment when the trigger-finger flexes, in that split second when it all comes together…..
P51 CADILLAC OF THE SKIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The shock of a screaming Mr Young causes camera shake of earthquake proportions, heads turn in unison, the Mustangs fly off unrecorded…..
…..and the shout travels INTO the speaker, down the cables, along the flightline, up into the control tower, out of the earphones and back, via the commentator, in less than 5 seconds!
Classic.

Rocketeer,
Not what I am saying at all, but we have to draw a line somewhere airshows are the 2nd largest source of Entertainment in the UK after football. I wouldnt like to see it loose its spot.
Sorry if you disagree.

yes I agree the commentary was the best I’ve heard at an airshow – who was the other commentator he had a very familiar voice…radio?

Not overheard but for me the highlight of the show – a commentator with some idea what he’s talking about. I refer to Bernard Chabert, what a rtefreshing change.
I agree he was a refreshing change and was great to listen to, I must admit at first i had to “Tune” my ears in a little to him as he pronounced words differently at times. You could tell how much of a fan he was of the Warbirds and his enthusiasm came through at every moment, He reminded me of Ron David at Biggin Hill. Both “Feel” what they are commentating on and really love it.

a glider – I thought it was a balloon!

The British Army WW2 unofficial recognition code divided aircraft into just three types too.
1) Approaching – assume hostile
2) Disappearing – assume friendly
3) Lysander
3) …/Luton Minor 🙂
Now Ben. Just ‘cos I had to do a go-around because I was being overtaken by a glider on finals!
And who says the BE-2 will be any faster…….

‘The Internet is a useful tool, unfortunatley it is often used by tools’ As someone once said to me.
Is that a slur on me or what?

Nope don’t disagree…true 2nd biggest outdoor events, just don’t see how a little amusement will chase the grockles away!! 🙂 Noone on this site advocates openly saying such people are twonks etc….just amusing what they can and do say.

Guys,
I hate to break it to you but the people who make silly comments are bringing in the cash so we can keep our heritage. people in the Industry need public support. We are just a small group here and should welcome public backing. I am sure many moons ago some of us where standing on the banks of the Thames saying:
‘Messerschmitts’
‘No there not they’re Heinkels!’
Just a thought.
I agree that anyone who goes to the shows pays money that helps keep or heritage flying etc and for that i am glad, Without them airshows would not happen, I don’t think anybody is saying they should not be there.
But lets lighten up a little theres enough sh1t going on in the world so why not have some fun every now and then?, We all say silly things at times and its the British natural instinct to make fun of each other, Its not offensive just FUN.

Anyone see the blue PRU Mossie on the flightline? You could tell it was a mossie – it had two props.

Landyman,
Can you clear a bit of your inbox please?

I overheard 3 comments that made me smile a lot and can think of a few other from other shows too.
1) A woman to her son saying he will see Red Arrows later, I think they probably found later they were at the wrong show.
2)A man telling his friend that the Saab B17 was a Avenger and he had worked on them in the past, I would have loved to see how he made a Avenger into Saab B17.
3)There was also one man claiming to he had seen many Hawk 75s during the 1970s and one crashed near his house, Still wondering what he ment.
By: landyman - 13th July 2005 at 20:18
not overheard at leg ends (cuz i wazn’t there 🙁 ) but at Sywell last year, upper class moron type to his three “chums” “i’m just hoping to see one crash” he’s probably still wondering why i called him a ******* p***k 🙁 .

And then there was me, who trotted along to the Tank Bank in search of the clicker-clique hedgehog on Sunday, and couldn’t spot any of you! I also galloped straight past Moggy in the Flypast enclosure, and got dragged back to him by the scruff of my neck by Mr Ashley 😀 I saw Mike J from an distance in the crowds but obviously didn’t squawk loudly enough to get his attention (and you try ploughing through the herds surrounding the stalls…oh and red suits you Mike ;))
(Guzzinneil and Bob…if I trampled straight past you in the enclosure then I apologise – the above proves that I should have been wearing my glasses :D)
