Don’t you think the world today is going crazy with overkill on everything?
Two items in today’s news that strike me alone on this issue – a schoolboy from a middle school in the USA wrote an essay to the topic of “My Perfect Day”. He unwisely wrote that his perfect day would involve unspecified violence against President George Bush, Coca-Cola, Wal-Mart and Oprah Winfrey. I mean, sure, not your average shool essay issues, however the overkill is this kid is now under investigation by the US Secret Service. For crying out load!
Worse still is the issue of the Danish newspaper cartoonist who drew a satirical cartoon that has offended Muslims. Sure,he was an idiot, and his paper probably would have been wiser not to run the cartoon. But total overkill now is the clerics are calling for violence against ALL Danish people, shops are removing Danish products in several Middle East countries, and when other European newspapers ran the same cartoon in defiance of censorship issues, they two are now bringing their countries into the storm. Why oh why should one simple little event, which is now fish and chip wrappings like everything else in last week’s newspaper, mean that an entire nation should fear violence and their export businesses should suffer.
Things like this are happening everywhere now. Seriously, the world needs to remove whatever’s up it’s butt and chill out.

The secret servie investigates any threats on the president – it’s a matter
of consistency. They have to investigate ALL of them, since they can’t
just pick and choose which threats to investigate.
The cartoonist an idiot? Why? Is he not entitled to free speech? It’s a
picture of mohamed with a bomb on his head, big deal. I’ve seen
pictures of Jesus that were far more insulting. People protested, of
course, but I do not remember the militant super fundameltalist christians
taking over embassies and threatenign to kidnap people over it.
This is just evidence that some members of Islam are nutcases, or as you
British folks say “nutters”.

Fish and Chips in Newspaper???!!
Dave,
The Eurocrats ruled that only specific “food-approved” materials can be in contact with food, all other materials are banned for fear that they might contaminate the food and poison people. So, despite years of safe use in UK (or at least, I never heard of anyone dying of newsprint poisoning :diablo: ) the priviledge of reading last weeks news whilst eating your chips vanished here many years ago, as inky newsprint was not added to the list of “materials approved for use in contact with food” before it was passed into European law :(.
Yet another case of your thread title i.e. total overkill

Brown paper up here.
But I digress.
There was a report in today’s Metro that a bus enthusiast was told to stop taking pictures of buses – because they thought he could be a terrorist.
THAT is just plain silly!
