Ended up at OW today, after being told Duxford was full. It took 1hr 10min to travel 46 miles then 3hrs 30min to travel 2.2 miles to J10 only to be told head north and get a bus, s– that, we carried on around to OW and had a brilliant afternoon. My first visit for two years and I am now looking forward to the next. I,ve added a few pics ( two lots)….

It was indeed being flown by Philip, he and his brother popped in dressed in period costume as usual. Nice chap.

Nice to see the late Pip Whiteman’s Cub is still out and about.
Probably being flown by Phillip Whiteman, Pip’s son who was sharing the flying with his dad.
Phillip is now editing the AOPA magazine as I recall. Good chap too although I will never say that in public. . .

And nice to see that he can select the right shutter speed to blur the blades.
Some people still can’t handle that…;)

Five shots by young Ryan Atkins (12yrs old) because I think he did well with his Fuji.

correct me if I am wrong, but there seems to be a trend developing that OW is THE place to go for airshows from an enthusasists point of view compared to DX. This choice is brought more into focus when they choose to go head to head on dates. Considering all the drama at Duxfod on Sunday, I think I may only head there on pre-show days (great value for Friends of Duxford) and then to OW for the show day. Better atmosphere, better views, better traffic, better food, lovely evening shows, fewer annoying people etc etc
Re diverting, if I had not purchased tickets in advanceed, I would have gone to OW like a shot….

Really nice day too – plenty of photo (& video) opportunities and some really nice light.

I diverted – but I actually changed my mind on Friday – based on the choice of aircraft shown on the website. Got lost going to OW though, and it took me about 3 minutes from the A1 – instead of about 1 minute. Delays, what delays
I arrived a few minutes before MOTF – who flew in courtesy of the Luftwaffe 😉

Lovely photos… I really must get back there. Nice to see the late Pip Whiteman’s Cub is still out and about. (Must dig out my copy of Sunday Fliers and watch it again…) A cub with her true WWII codes as proven by period photgraphic evidence… Wasn’t it a Cub that was the first allied plane to land on D-Day (IIRC on a beach where it was promptly blown up by shells!)

LEHARVE
It was worth it in the end. I’d be interested to know how many people diverted from Dux to OW.
Nice shots. did you meet up with the rest of the gang?
