I`m not sure if anyone here can help me, i am flying a 10ft span radio control B-17 and would like to fly it from some of the former 8th Airforce bases but am not sure who to contact to get permission. Does anyone on here have contact details for any of the land owners or have any suggestions about how to obtain contact details?…….Martin

Excellent shot with the control tower in the background kartman.
Hope you manage to take in as many former USAAF airfields as you can.
Have you tried asking on Airfield Information Exchange forums?

Just an update, i`ve now flown at Rougham and included a couple of pictures, but have drawn a blank at Deenthorpe. I visited the airfield a few days back and it is very atmospheric with the main runway still intact but with a few weeds poking up. I managed to track down the airfield owner and spoke with `the person who deals with enquires`. I explained that i was trying to fly from as many of the old bases as possible and get pictures of the event but was met with a stoney silence followed by the words `definatly not`. Apparently it is a `safety issue`! no radio control flyers or people testing cars or motorbikes. I turned up that a group are commemerating operation Market Garden this September and they had got agreement for the use of Deenethorpe late last year, this was changed in March to Spanhoe due to `unforseen technical problems`? Anyone know what`s going on at Deenethorpe, the Air Atlantique thing seems to have gone very quite. I will be in touch with those of you kind enough to offer invites to your ex 8th airfields, i have also flown her at Scampton and Barkston Heath RAF bases but the ex USAAF bases are where i`m trying to go from……….Martin

I can invite you to Horham, we fly from the old runway. I’m also a trustee of the Red Feather Club, a museum in the former NCO club buildings, now restored. We would love to see a B-17 with the big B flying over!
I know the owners of Parham, Debach, Metfield and often fly into many others. I would imagine permission would generally be forthcoming.

Thanks for all the replys guys, i`m willing to change the tail code letter to suit the base, what i need is contact numbers or the person to speak to. Are some of you actually inviting me to your sites, i`ll send all respondants a pm and hopefully we can sort it. Poddington (Santa Pod) is just down the road from me and i`ve been upto the site and was amazed how many of the old buildings are still there so that might be a good starting point. I think i have a contact for Chelveston which is only just across the road from my clubs field. Does anyone know who to contact for Bovingdon, i know most of the original runway is still there……….Martin

Put a triangle B on it and I’ll put in a good word with the people at Santa Pod (formerly station 109 – Podington)
Alternatively, give them a call. They can be quite in touch with their history at times.
Very nice looking model by the way

There’s a group of radio modellers use our strip.
I’ll try and get you some contact details
You’ll need an ‘H in a square’ on the tail though.
