Interesting, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy James (not the actor) on a couple of occasions at Flying Legends. He was with 609 Sqn on Typhoons and was also shot down, captured and interned in Buchenwald.

I visited the camp in 1984, at the time Germany was still divided and the camp was within the DDR. The Communist authorities would take school children on a guided tours of the camp, nothing odd about that, however the tours were given by a military officer, I guess some sort of political liaison official to warn the children of the evils of Western Culture and the resurrection of Fascism. Pamphlets handed out at the camp when we were there, blamed the West German Government and Western Allies for not capturing the people responsible for the concentration camps.
