I noticed that Hangar 11 P-40M which has been advertised on sale with Platinum Fighters for a while now, is shown as ‘pending’.
It will be interesting to see where she ends up, but hopefully she will stay in the UK.
Time will tell I guess!
Cheers

Thanks for the update and great to see the P-51 continues to be a visitor to Wellesbourne.

Interesting…I’m curious if we’ll see it going to the Erickson Aircraft Collection (even with their recent purchase/addition of the former Tony Banta P-40E).
Great photo of Peter’s Mustang!

Spoke to PT himself today when he dropped in to Wellesbourne in his Mustang en route to Cosford.
Apparantly the P40 has been sold in Oregon USA.
Also he has no current plans to sell the Hurricane.
His just trimming down his collection slightly, to help the Spitfire IX restoration.
As he said, his still got plenty of toys to play with.
Heres a picture of his Mustang at Wellesbourne today.

I don’t know where it’s going. All I know is that the sales broker has confirmed on their Facebook and Twitter pages that it has now been sold.

Great news it gives PT his funding for other projects. this really is not a negative its good that these aeroplanes get traded and allows for the resurrection of new acquisitions.
Hats off to PT for his collection that must be a staggering attack on the wallet department

The reasons were explained by the owner at the time the aircraft were listed for sale:
Dear Friends,
I have been made aware of a number of comments being posted through social media about the proposed sale of a part of the
Hangar 11 Collection and I decided best to lay out the facts from my standpoint.I started the collection in 1999 and since, we have built up an enviable set of amazing flying, active warbirds each unique in their own way. Personally, I have flown some 2000 warbird hours and too many hundreds of air displays to remember, over the last 15 years or so. Fact is that I really do have the Tee shirt and so many wonderful memories that will never be equalled in aviation.
However, the Hangar 11 Collection is a tough business to run , in organisational terms, in financial terms and most of all in emotional terms. It’s rather a drain to be honest and I am looking to reduce my workload as I am struggling to keep up with family commitments, work commitments and also to find the resources to complete our unique MK IX Russian Spitfire PT879.
So a very hard decision was made to reduce the collection down to the pair of P51 Mustang and MK XI Spitfire and to concentrate on completing PT879, for which we need room in the hangar. I will of course carry on with my airshow work but frankly it isn’t a quick process to sell aircraft of this type, so I am not counting on any disruption to our 2016 season. We are very relaxed sellers and are under no pressure until the right home is found for the P40 and Hurribomber.
Hope this helps to allay your fears and responds to the many emails I have received to date.
Happy Xmas and a peaceful new Year to all my friends and followers.Fly safe
Peter
With regards to your point about Mustangs, there are a few around but the rest of them don’t really perform many displays. The next most popular in terms of bookings would probably be Ferocious Frankie, but that was on the shelf last year. The Mustang population was also reduced by two last year, with the accident involving Janie and the sale of Marinell.
Regardless of numbers, I seem to recall the owner has said before that the Mustang is his favourite.
In terms of Spitfires, I can’t think of another privately owned example that enjoys as many bookings as Hangar 11’s, so yes, they are popular, but they’re capitalising on that quite well too.

It is his aircraft and he can do what he wishes…having got that out of the way, I wonder what the reasoning is behind selling on an aircraft like the P-40 and indeed one of his other mounts namely the Hurricane. Is it that the types he is keeping and the Spitfire he is restoring are all combat veterans and therefore of more interest?
He has a unique collection with the four types. If it is about the cost of keeping all four, I would have thought both the P-40 and the Hurricane were more beneficial regarding airshow bookings, rather than Mustangs and Spitfires that are becoming …well sad to say a bit ‘common’ now.

Sorry to see it leave if its sold abroad.
PT often flies into Wellesbourne in one of his warbirds for a cup of coffee.
Expensive coffee.

” it was a pleasure to see this wonderful aircraft on a regular basis at various shows throughout the UK.”
Not just at shows – outside of the show season JT regularly flies his aircraft to certain GA fields where he lands, has a cuppa and chats to folk too. The P-40 has often been in to Wellesbourne for example and will be missed.

PT hasn’t updated his Facebook page in ages , he always keeps his followers up to date with fabulous write ups .

Indeed warhawk69, that was the gist of the he various interviews I have read with Peter Teichman.
He mentioned that he was in no hurry to sell the aircraft, and would make sure that they were sold to the ‘right buyer’.
It’s worth remembering that PT879 was his first Spitfire (project), but when PL965 came up for sale, it was to good an opportunity to miss, although I seem to recall in the profile on him a few issues ago in Aeroplane Monthly, he admits it might have been better to have had PT879 restored sooner, as the rebuild costs have gone up considerably since he first acquired the project.
Whoever G-KITT goes too, it’s time at Hangar 11 will be fondly remembered, and it was a pleasure to see this wonderful aircraft on a regular basis at various shows throughout the UK.
Cheers

I’m sure he has said in interviews that he has no plans to replace any sold aircraft as he is using the cash to pay for the Spitfire. The way he is getting fed up with the new rules taking all the fun out of displaying I wouldn’t be surprised if he sells the whole collection and just keeps one to play with!
