Indeed, a very sad outcome to what looked like a textbook ditching.

Looking at the recovery photos, the aircraft looks to have remained pretty much intact, it’s just so tragic that Bill Gordon lost his life.

Indeed, one of the many perils in a ditching is if the pilot hits his head on the panel during impact and gets knocked out thus removing the ability to extricate himself.
A really tragic story to awake to this morning.

Indeed it’s Fleet week – it’s massively sad that the outcome couldn’t have been more favourable but with the Hudson teeming with boats and helicopters overhead it wasn’t to be.

I am in NY just by the Hudson at the moment, the aircraft has been lifted by army engineers and the pilot recovered.

So tragic after skilfully ditching what must be an incredibly difficult aircraft

Very sad news. Thoughts with the pilot’s family and friends. The chap who dived in to try and rescue the pilot is a hero.

From the brief clip I’ve seen it was a ditching. Sad outcome though
