Mark 12 respond please
I am using this thread to contact “MARK 12” who posted a message last year about a crashed Spitfire “X4818” in Goole in 1943 – I have done extensive research on this a/c as it crashed on my cousins farm in Yorkshire.
If you want to discuss – contact me

I think we mulled over this a year or two ago, when somebody posted a colour pic of it performing at a show at Hucknall (Notts).
It was listed in the Warbird Directory. N5087V ”Toured europe”
Now USAFM Wright Patterson museumOops.. just seen Daz’s post……..
It was this one, I do have some colour slides of it but I can’t post them, I spent most of Hucknall airshow sitting next to it, the crowd barriers were somewhat insignificant affairs in those days, ie one piece of rope.

My caption to a picture of the pilot waving from the aircraft in the Warbirds Worldwide directory, 3rd Ed, 1996, says:
‘Republic test-pilot Mr Glen Bach waves from the (then) Republic Corporation owned P-47 N5087V which was on a tour of Europe and the Paris airshow in 1963 to counterpoint the new Thunderbolt II. On the nose are the flags of the countries which used the Thunderbolt during W.W.II. Photo W.W.Collection’
IIRC, my information came from the press release / information with the photo, plus some further research.

Roger Freemans Thunderbolt book states that Glenn Bach was the test pilot for Republic. The nose insignia combines national flags of nations that used the P-47 during WW11. The book states that it was acquired from Bob Bean an aircraft dealer in California by Republic. It was crated and shipped to St Nazaire ready for the 1963 Paris Air Salon. Glenn Bach had flown P-47s from East Wretham in the winter of 1943-4 with the 359thFG. Maintenance was in the hands of T. Maclaughlin a Republic engineer who had worked on p-47 production at Farmingdale .

Sorry do not know, maybe they did as it was the star of the 1963 Paris Air Show. Did Republic get taken over ?
By: David Burke - 15th July 2007 at 22:03
Was it sponsored by Republic?
By: T-21 - 15th July 2007 at 21:52
The P-47 was owned by Earl Reinhart and flown at airshows by Glenn Bach in UK,France and Germany in 1963. It was a P-47G-15-Cu model purchased by Republic in 1961,serialled N5087V coded HV:P. Hope this helps.

Flags on the cowl seem to indicate operators/former operators of the P-47. Interesting European tour in 1963 .
