There’s a photo of a crated P-51A with Brit markings on one of the pages of an old issue of Air Classics magazine, the 1975 Quarterly Review, (Volume 2 Number 1) featuring the P-51 Mustang.
The caption read: “Bundle for Britain. The Mustang 1a and 1As were crated for sea shipment to England and quite a number were lost to torpedo attacks by German U-boats.”
(credit to the photo was given to NAA)
How many Mustangs 1s might there be sitting on the bottom of the Atlantic in their shipping crates?
