Anything that puts another Mustang in the skies of Norfolk is fine by me, I wish the owner the best of luck with his machine.
I agree with you Chris, another flying Mustang is welcome.

That’s what they are pretty much doing in the U.S and a recently flown razorback is proclaimed by her owner as distinctly new and a credit to him.

Drawings?
Aah so! Considering the remains shown in the photo, this would appear to be a new build jobbie, so why not start a production line like the 262?

Flypast, (remember our sponsor!) are now reporting that the majority view is that it is 42-72181 Sunny Vlll that crashed 5/29/45. As they state and from the picture supplied by Bruce, this will indeed be an ambitious restoration. Where does the rest of the plane come from?

Now given a few minutes to ponder this, and finding out the Classic (UW) are Insurance Underwriters based in the area I wonder if the name “Classic” and the location ‘Swainsthorpe’ is a common thread running through here???

Trolly Aux – that one has also since crashed, taking its pilot with it….
Bruce
Yes I remeber but a lot of them are rebuilt now so I thought maybe that was it.

A collection of parts in search of an identity I suspect, ably provided by the aircraft in the above link.

Hi Shuck,
In that case this is an airframe that, as far as I know, has never been listed as a “survivor”. Does anybody know what this restoration or rebuild started with?
Harm-Jan
PS: No, I don’s mind if it started with just a data-plate, as long as looks, sounds and flies like a P-51 it’s a P-51 to me and I like them a lot!

122-38640 was 44-72181 VF-S Sunny VIII of 336th FS/4th FG that crashed near Denshaw Oldham on 29/05/45

Well GINFO has it listed as just ben registered so i guess it is about to come across the pond!

Could this be a typo? My information on surviving Mustangs does list a c/n 122-38604, a P-51-D-20NA, USAAF s/n 44-72145, airworthy, registered N51PT and owned/operated by Castlewood Air Motive Inc.
