Thanks I’ll try contacting him to see if it’s the correct Lee Schaller.

I just discovered a post on WIX forum which states 44-84962 is a false serial. Anyone know anything about that as it’s the s/n that interests me because of its supposed history with the ROKAF.

Anyone out there have any pics of this machine and the contact details of Lee Schaller?

Lee Schaller’s aeroplane.

It was restored by Steve Hinton from one of the Stephen Johnson recoveries from Indonesia. It has spent the past 3 decades in a locked, private hangar at Schellville and has only seen daylight on a handful of occasions since then. I believe that it was engine-run on occasion in the early days but hasn’t moved for years now. The same owner has a DST (Douglas Sleeper Transport) parked up at Schellville and a hanger chock-full of aviation and automotive treasures on a private strip up in the hills a few miles away, we flew up there to visit it once.

In all the years I was a regular visitor to Schellville I never saw the P -51 once. 🙁
