Hi all
I am a bit knackered to have to report that the sole Switzerland based P-51D, N51EA “Double Trouble Two” has been sold to the U.S. and will leave Switzerland on 10th December 2004, destination Washington D.C.
Best regards
Martin / Swiss Mustangs

awright fellas, awright! 😀
I wasnt serious, but when u look at pics taken over Texas or California u must admit the panorama can be pretty desolating: no interesting landmarks, no mountains, no nothing… Europe is more appealing under this point of view, having historical landmarks(castles, monuments..), hills and mountains, small old villages, historical areas.. A flight over the Channel with a low pass over the Dover cliffs is an emotion that a million flights over Aspen can’t give.. Our ATC can turn into a nightmare sometimes, but that’s another story 😉
cheers

Pool table flying – Hmmm!
A good few years back Bill Greenwood invited me to accompany him to Oshkosh in his Spitfire.
I seem to remember to break out of the Aspen ‘pocket’ safely and clear the Rockies to the East, he went on to a small oxygen pack. From memory that would have been over 13,000′ and within the range to engage the second stage of the supercharger with the barometric control.
Great trip.

Yeah, well, check out my other thread ‘Pool Table flying in the US’ that I just created with some photos taken over a NOT so flat terrain here in Colorado…

The Grand Canyon’s a fairly serious ditch, I understand.

Or Colorado…Hello? Bill Greenwood bases his Spitfire at Aspen, we used to have one HELLUVA show there with mountains just off the side of the runway…Jimmy Franklin flew right up the face of the mountain (it has the airport radar on it, made one heckuva shot on film)….I Simply MUST defend the honor of the US when it comes to ‘pool table’ flying by illustrating my point, I guess….

The 51 had the fiercest combat theatre here, so I say
Mustangs belong to Europe!!!! 😀 😉
Flying here is so exciting, with all our mountains, hills, valleys… US are a pool table, no deep valleys to whizz into 😎Alex
I take it you havent been to Montana,Idaho,Washington, or Oregon.

Tut Tut – For the ‘new’ photo you could have least got a P-47 and a Petrol Bowser for the background rather than a TBM and a lorry in the same place!
– Was this intensional ??
Oh and put some drop tanks on as well !
Though I suppose you had to make due with what was available ??
😉
Paul,
I am not sure if it was in tension or compression. 🙂
Ray Stutsman who owned the Mustang gave me the photographs – they are not mine.
He posed similar shots when he completed his P-47 ‘Little Demon’.

Hey Martin,
Here are a couple of shots to cheer you up. 🙂
Double Trouble (one) the original and Ray Stutsman’s P-51 replication of the scheme and location.
Ray gave me the latter some time circa 1979.

I think that first one I once described as the best photo of a Mustang I’d ever seen!

Very nice photographs Mark, it’s a shame that N51EA is leaving Europe, I only ever got to see her once. Any idea who the new owner is?
