P-51D N6356T – How many Paint Jobs? (oldie from 2004)

Hello

further to Steve Bond’s photo in the Elstree thread, I started looking at the many paint-jobs this particular P-51D Mustang N6356T had while stationed in the UK.

Any clues ? Or in other words: Let’s find as many variants as possible !

All photographic input is highly welcome. Thank you.

I’ll put some below to get started.

1: 1967
2: 1969 for movie “Patton”
3: 1966 at Biggin Hill

Wow, the paint scheme shown in the 1966 Biggins Hill photo sure bears more than a striking resemblance to N6300T (44-73163) during the period that former 79th. Fighter Squadron pilot Robert Pollock owned (1965-1966), any connection between them?

Martin do you have any photos of N6300T from the mid-60s?

N6300T later became famous “Minute Man” in Tex ANG colors – it was badly damaged in a crash in September 1989 as N51MR and currently is under rebuild. It is former 44-73163 and RCAF 9285

Thanks, Martin.

Capt. Pollock’s daughters were gracious enough to send me that photo and they were very interested in finding out what happened to their father’s old Mustang. They were shocked it is still around. He sold the plane to a Mickey Rupp when something expensive needed to be replaced.

Martin, if you read the thread on King’s Cup, you will learn that she was silver with British roundels.

Any idea what color the plane had in your photo, Mark?

TJ,

I am afraid not.

The negative was from the late Ron Cranham.

Sorry to drag up an old tread like this, but I seemed to remember that Martin wanted to know all the schemes worn by N6356T while in the UK. I just found a videoclip from the Kings Cup in 67 (Masefield won by the way), and this is a still showing what it looked like during the race. From looking at Steve Bonds photo from Elstree in 67, it would appear to be the same scheme!

Crackle finish anyone?

Lots of paint schemes but not all compatible it would seem. 🙁

It also had a dark maroon and cream scheme in the early 1960s, I have a shot at home, but I have no doubt someone will beat me to it.
