Hello All,
My name is Norm and I’m heading up the Mustang Restoration Project at the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum. We are working to restore one of only five H model Mustangs left in the world. We have no corporate sponsors or huge grants, just the help of many people just like you.
We welcome any and all comments, suggestions and contributions from enthusiasts from around the world that will assist in our project. For a peek at what we are doing, please see http://home.insightbb.com/~p51h/index.htm or http://www.aeromuseum.com .
We are always searching for parts, documents, personal histories and stories of the men and women involved in the production, maintenance and operation of this unique Mustang variant. Come and see us, and let us know what you think.

Thanks for the info, and the link to all the photos. I thought this airplane might have been a Reno racer in it’s past!
I also see that the plane is on loan from the USAF museum. How does that affect your restoration efforts? Does the USAF give you some assurance that after you finish the restoration the plane will not go back to Wright-Pat?
Good luck,
Steve Patterson

Norm,
I’ve got a pilot’s manual for an “H” model if that is of use to you. I’ve also got all the maintenance and repair manuals for the “D” if you would like them. I know there are significant differences between the two models, but maybe some of it will be of use.
By the way, I went to maintenance school at Chanute in the summer of 1992. I’ve only been back there once, about four years ago, but I’m glad to see that effort has been put into preserving the heritage of the place. Although I really didn’t appreciate it at the time, it was one of the nicest bases I’ve ever spent time at.
