You seem very well informed as to what is just below the surface. I know several people who make a fine living discovering ww2 artifacts with their metal detectors in areas such as this,,,

I don’t see the attraction of digging up a unusable, unidentifiable piece of metal.
If it can help with a restoration or has a particular place in history…sure.
But a piece of relatively common scrap?
