P51 D in Jakarta

Looking at this Mustang today, I was wondering if anyone knows it`s past, or for that matter it`s future? seems that it is slowly rotting given the climate, and it`s outside storage. As well lots of add on static panels etc, stripped cockpit, and is there an engine?
Cheers.

I am confused: is Canadair agreeing that this is a picture of the very Mustang – of is he agreeing that this is a picture of a Mustang?

I would certainly agree with you there! but this is also NOT the museum I was at.
Wish I had found that one though, I shall search.
I was at the Satria Mandala museum, just around the corner from the Mulia hotel.
a museum on a much smaller scale,
List includes:
DC3
Fairey Gannet
Piper L4
P51
T-6
B25
and a Mig 21 out front.
But my original point, these are fantasic, valuable airframes, but the climate here is not exacly condusive to outside display, what with the afternoon downpours and oppresive humidity. I realise they have to work with what they have, but sad to say, the aircraft will not live forever in these conditions.
But thankyou for your information, I will certainly seek out the other display if possible.

…..the sparse offerings in this museum,

I wouldent call these offerings sparse !

The Indonesian Air Force has an excellent but little known air museum in Yogyakarta called the Museum Dirgantara Mandala. The museum is located behind the main Yogyakarta airport. All aircraft are under cover and beautifully maintained in static condition. A tribute to the curator who must work with a very limited budget.

wow, you guys are good!
I had no idea there were so many on display over here. I am referring to the one in the Mandala museum, on outdoor display, under a semi covered area.
But out of interest, where are the others located? I seem to be having no luck finding any sort of heritage avaition here, other than the sparse offerings in this museum, any suggestions around the Jakarta area?
cheers.

Canadair
There are 7 P-51D’s in Indonesia, 3 of which are in Jakarta, so a clue as to ID would help.

With Jakarta as the only clue I would guess you are referring to Indonesian AF F-347? Apparently with the Armed Forces Museum since at least 1977.
