P51 Drop Tank – Value?

Hello,

I dont normally post questions like this on here, but I wonder if someone can help me out – Mods, I hope that this is ok? Please remove if it’s not appropriate use of the forum.

I’m looking at buying a P51 drop tank. As you can see from the photo, it’s complete and in reasonable condition. The base is a bit damaged / dented, but it looks intact.

I have attached a photo of the tank…

My question is this… Do some of the more experienced dealers / experts / collectors, have any idea what would be the value of such an item?

Any help would be greatfully received.

Usable ones go for about $1000-$1500 in the US.

Thank you very much for your help gents… I’ll let you know how I get on. It is very much at the top of the estimate that has been given here, and the freight may make it prohibitive, however, if I do get it, then I’ll report back.

Jason, If I dont get it, then I will gladly put you in contact with the seller, but like I said above… They want a lot more than 100Euros, and I don’t think it has any provenance as such.

Thanks once again for your help.

Bottisham Airfield Museum

We at Bottisham Airfield Museum have been looking for one of these for a while now to compliment our Mustang – if for any reason you decide not to go ahead please let us know as we would like to make a bid.

In terms of value one came on German ebay and went for about 100 euros recently but not sure they fully appreciated what they had. I would say Rob’s valuation isn’t far away.

Good luck.

Personally i would say its difficult to value, as i dont recall many coming up for sale. Provenance / identity might add to the value, otherwise more a case of paying a price that you are happy with VX927. But as a general guide if it was a Wyvern tank in similar condition i’d be happy with upto £300. But thats just me! 🙂

Rob.
