That looked a bit botched to me – unless that grass run was very short I have no idea why the aircraft was allowed to descend so close to the tarmac surface. I would have thought a slightly higher approach with time to cut the engine would have been better alround.
Yes, a really ‘botched landing’ where both pilot & pax got out OK, & the aircraft ended up with minimal damage! Pilot or no pilot, I’d like to see your effort in his position! Heaven help us if you start flying something bigger than your puddle jumpers, you just don’t have a clue!
& yes, I DO know what I’m talking about, we operate a Mustang.
The guy done good! why dis him? You said it all ‘I have no idea’!!

No, I have never landed an aircraft wheels up and neither have I flown a P51 however I do fly smaller aircraft myself.
Just thought that gear up landing looked a little too close for comfort when, unless there was some other issue, it didn’t need to be!!!

For a ‘perfect’ gear up landing check this out!

We call them ‘runways’ – what do you call them? 😉
Looked more like a bit of peri track than a runway…
& just had another look, it is indeed a runway

No one hurt, which is the main thing, and we can hope the damage is as minimal as possible.
…on that road surface…

Point Cook is an all over grass field with additional hard runways. It looks from the video that they chose to land on one of the grass runways. (Crossing one of the hard runways on approach.)
I hope BOB’s team haven’t got too much to do and can get it done as quickly as possible. They’ve been sharing the Mustang experience for a long time now, let’s hope they get back to offering pleasure flights ASAP.

looks like a good landing. Shame about the prop strike though.

good landing given how a mustang could teeter on that big scoop….hope all that foam does not do too much more damage, pleased they are all ok

I’m no “Belly-landing” expert, but that looked just about as good as they get. Good airmanship.

From the video it was a very good gear up landing. Hopefully the damage is minimal and she can return to the skies again this year.
Seeing how close he was to bashing the scoop on that road surface it was a helluva landing, jeeze he must have missed that by inches..
