Visited duxford yesterday and was suprised to see 4xtornados on the pan, dont know whats going on there, had a look in hanger 2 a hive of activity everybody was working on the P51D paint stripping it.
One of the workers was talking to the public about getting the a/c stripped and painted for legends they are putting a lot of effort into it,looks touch and go i reckon,i dont know if the worker had realised but he was going on a bit found it rather boring actually.

As far as i’ve heard the La-9 was due to arrive at the docks last sunday and was due at DX early this week.
The Tf-51 is on it’s way and is supposed to be here in time for Legends.
TFC’s P-51D is being repainted in her original markings of the 78th FG. She was supposed to be painted as Twilight Tear but TFC were having a major problem getting hold of photo’s of the noseart and the left hand side. They had found out that the same pilot of Twilight Tear flew another &8th P-51 and were looking into that ones noseart as a temporary replacement.
As for looking iffy for legends, i don’t think so. If they can put together the P-51C and paint her in 2 weeks then i’m sure they’ll get P-51D painted in 6 weeks.
What i want to know is how much longer those Yak 3’s are going to take. I’m sure OFMC’s one was supposed to have been flying for this year, as i heard that the Corsair was going back to New Zealand with the P-40 and that the Yak 3 and La-9 were going to be their replacements.

Bentwingbomber,
Couldnt agree more about the P47. I thing its a fabulous machine and has looked great for years. A credit to all the chaps at TFC (including the coffee drinkers)!

I agree the TFC voluteers look as though they do a superb job and allways have done !!!!! I don’t think they are appreciated in what they do. Coffee sales have never been so high

That would be the early Spit that TFC own, right? Last time I saw it (few weeks back now) the people working there were talking about it being painted. It does always look quite tidy though, I was just wondering if the paint job was still going to go ahead. I imagine it is getting a bit close to the big airshow they do there for something as dramatic as that to happen to their most important aircraft though.

Your right the bearcat always looks nice and clean, full credit to the crew.I must also say that EP120 always looks tidy 🙂

Hi Peta,
I think they all do a fantastic job. Dunno who works on the bearcat but it shone like a new penny, must have used up a lot of polish to get it looking that good. How often do they fly it?

Digby when i was up there a few weeks back i was talking to the Corsair Crew Chief who said the waggly bits were having some necessary work done on them by their engineering guy who he said is doing a fantastic job,i think he also said some of it is being done outside as well.

Probably looking round the hangar trying to find them!
Seriously, the volunteers must do a good job. The fact that they come in on a Sunday says something. I presume the people I saw swarming all over the Mustang covered in paint stripper must be volunteers too. Not a very glamorous job but neccesary I suppose.

Peta O mast last time I saw the Corsair it had loads of waggly bits missing so I wonder what the two guys that look after it are doing.
By: Peta O Mast - 9th June 2003 at 20:47
Scully TFC most certainly do have volunteers working for them who put in lots of their spare time to help out,and i must say the two guys who look after TFC’s corsair do a superb job.
By: scully - 9th June 2003 at 20:25
I didn’t even realise TFC had any volunteers
By: DIGBY - 9th June 2003 at 20:20
Yak 11 fan what do you mean about TFC volunteers on this forum as I hav’nt read that anyone has said that they work at TFC, has anyone else?

😀 Snapper
As for the Hastings, she’s a certainty for the new Superhanger extension,so she shouldn’t become a worry in the long term.Shouldn’t think they’ll dangle her from the ceiling either, which is good news!

Just trying to avoid using punctuation to make it read better I wish they had a Typhoon I went past Duxford yesterday and for the first time in my life i didnt see any aircraft what a shame

Thanks Scully,
I pressume Albert is the Hellcat pilot, lucky guy.
By: scully - 9th June 2003 at 18:21
I’ll think your find the Hellcat is in France with Albert
By: Mark V - 9th June 2003 at 17:39
I was lucky enough to get up to Duxford yesterday too. Saw the P-51 in the TFC hangar. Last time I saw so many bods swarming over a machine was in the pits at an F1 race, must be a lot of pressure to get the work finished.
Could not find the Hellcat in any of the hangars though, shame.
