How long do you think that we will continue to see the BBMF Lancaster in the air? It’s new spar work was supposed to have been ‘good for another 50 years’ but do you really think it will still be flying then? Personally, I think a landing accident will claim it long before mechanical problems do-what do you think?

We had a BBC loan Dalek in a bookshop I was working in once.

A member of staff got in it one moring before opening and waited an extrodinary hour before making a customer wet themselves. Ah, fun days. 😉

I do still lurk here mate, but am very busy with other things right now- building a Dalek, for one. (Don’t ask!)

at the risk of swinging my own thread completely off topic, a friend of mine once built two daleks and a tardis (very good ones too) and proceeded to make his own three hour Dr Who film complete with explosions and car chases. During the week he reverted to humble science teacher status.

Re. my wishes for the Lanc’s new look, well, as you kindly asked, I thought I’d like to see it flying around with this kind of budgie-perch shaped thing beneath it’s tailwheel you see, and perhaps with the sound of Glenn Miller on a loop playng nearby and the smell of something that’s purported to be food, but upon purchase, really, really isn’t…all in the murk and gloom, of course!

cheers,
Greg

Hi Fluffy

I do think that the lanc represents all the guys who did’nt come back. just think she would look good in an everyday squdron colours insted of a famous lanc.

She looked fine when she flew over North Oxon about an hour ago.

Spitfire (? only caught a glimpse) flying in very loose formation sounds odd to me. Not a Merlin, perhaps?

Mike
Sorry I have only just seen Norman Franks book, schemes already picked and Scott whilst I agree with you we have crew who would prefer not to fly the Lanc in a scheme that was shot down and crew killed but don’t you think that she still flys she remembers all those crews who didn’t return and gave their lives for this country.

Hi all

Here’s an idea as the lanc is always painted in famous lanc colours how about picking a lanc that was lost with it’s crew on a very early mission to give a very big thanks to all the guys who didnt last very long who made the ultimate sacrifice for there country.

I’ve got an idea….why not strip it down to natural metal, paint RAF ‘D-Type’ roundels on it, block in the turrets and mount a wingtip on top of the fuselage where the dorsal turret is?
