Bex

If you are in need of switches of the historic kind, try sending a PM to Kigas, he has access to a large assortment.

You never know, he might be able to find something to turn you on.:diablo:

Merlin70, thanks for that I will do, a friend is trying to get an old Lanc radio working and hes missing this “J Switch” thing. Thanks again, and this made me laugh too so thanks for that also :diablo: Bex

Time to be cheeky, any ideas if u guys have any spare “J Switches” knocking around that the RAF would be willing to sell? If u dont ask u dont know 😀

Also, wot is a “J Switch” and what does it do?

Flap tubes have arrived

Progress continues. Port flap tubes arrived and are fitted. Stbd ones should be here tomorrow. I have added a few more photographs at the start of the thread.

Hmmm i’d forgten about that…. I’d heard that the A/C of the BBMF are still on charge with the RAF…. technicaly… still operational… is this true…?

From numerous discussions on here with active BBMF engineers, yes.

None of the BBMF aircraft are still on the civil register, anyway. A few will still have registrations “in the system” from when they were used in the Battle of Britain film.

From memory it’s a later-style intake that’s part of the cabin heating system, I think.

What is that cowling on the starboard fuselage just above the upper wing route? I have not noticed it on WW11 photos of Lancasters.

The C in CAA should be a pretty good clue as to how much control they have over the RAF‘s BBMF.

Hi Bex,

The J Switch is large round device to the left of the T1155.

Switch Unit Type J 10F/126 is used to connect the radio equipment to different aerials:

D.F. – M.F. on fixed – Normal – H.F. on trailing – Earth

I have a spare one for my T1155/R1154 combination but it will not be cheap.

Regards
Ross

The Radios were fully restored to working order about 10 years ago, however we don’t use them.

Ken, I agree with you, Very Pistol it is. My dads old Cadet Unit had a couple of them when I was a kid, I must have been about 9 (Im 32 now)when they went back to the MOD.

As for Radio, I know someone who almost has a Lanc radio working, its just minus a “J Switch” if that means anything to my more enlightened Forumites.

In the picure of the radio station… hanging up in the top left corner of the picture… is that a very flare pistol grip…? looks like it to me…!

as for ollies querie about the old equipment… Try being a little more observant….:) the crew wear modern helmets yes..? suggesting a modern InterCom system at least.. all the old IC sockets/wiring would have to be changed to accomodate the new plugs on the helmets, as well as other changes for differing voltages etc…
Original radio… yes, but come on ollie, think boy think..!;) Permit to fly and CAA would insist on modern (reliable) radio as one of the basic conditions to fly.

highly unlikely if it works… getting it to work is not impossible, you can still get most of the parts but i doubt anyone uses those frequencies any more so who would you talk to….?

‘474 has small modern radios tucked away, and one or two pieces of modern nav gear too I believe. All the wartime stuff is for internal appearances only- radios don’t work, turrets are only manual, etc. I’m sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be along soon to set me right!

Well ollieholmes

Does this little old lady need a radio?

Should every one by now know who she is and if they don,t why not.

Well done to all so far hope to have a look at her tomorrow.

What i ment is does she still use her orgional war time radios or does she use a modern radio? How about some of the other equipment in her.

I think pretty much all of that kind of gear is for appearances only, isn’t it?
