Packing heat

RAF pilots are armed with the Walther PPK (aka a water pistol), while the American forces I beleive have a choice of side-arm upto a certain weight ( I may be wrong, can’t remember where I heard this from). In the event of ditching in enemy territory or even a bear filled forrest the choice of side-arm could be important, although thinking about it what’s a desert eagle when you compare it to a dozen AK-47s!

What to aircrew from other countries carry? Do you think that a sidearm for aircrew is a must, and I suppose going further what would you personally choose? (Within reason, it’s got to at least fit in a cockpit)
