PAF in Kargil

Hi Folks

Want to start a serious non flamebait discussion on the absence of the PAF from the Kargil Skies. In many ways this was an ideal situation for the PAF for the following reasons :

1. No strike missions needed to be flown by them only intercepts, which is what the PAF has always “excelled” in.

2. Their rich experience in the Afghan “Air” War ( on which our Pakistani friends have a thread already ) would have served them very well in terms of tactics…the IAF was operating in a very similar mode, and actually in worse terrain, so the IAF strike planes should have been easy targets

3. After the first month everyone knew that this was going to be a limited war so the PAF could have concentrated its resources on Kargil.

4. Was the Gaurav Chibber incident an isolated case? Or If as Abdul says the PAF caught the IAF with its pants down then
a) why did they not shoot b)Why have they never gone to town about it ( This is not sarcasm but be it their nuke program or The PAF the Pakistanis have never been shy of publicity).

And Yes, at least i dont buy the ROE / political restraint angle…we all know who calls the shots in Pakistan.

What say the learned people? and pls no flame!!!
