Painting WW2 instrument panels

Can anyone recommend a Good paint for doing wartime insrtrument panels in black, to get a good looking original smooth finish either through a proper compressor or cans ?

Matt or a Eggshell finish ?

Thanks again.

Getting a really good Matt finish is not easy; it often comes out blotchy.

For that reason, I go eggshell, and use a decent cellulose paint.

However, if you can afford it, powder coating isnt a bad way to go; just dont use it for structural parts on aircraft that may fly again!

I am with David on this one. Depends if you want pretty vs authentic. Again, depends on type.

Like to be proved wrong, but i doubt wartime instrument fitters worried too much about a scratch here or there.

Had thought about powder coating or etch prime and paint, paint might be more likely to chip off I guess ? When re-fitting instruments one slip of the screw driver and a big scratch could cause much distress 😮
