Pakistani Air Force Chief Mushaf Ali Mir and 17 others were on Thursday killed when the Pakistani Fokker military transport plane in which they were traveling crashed somewhere in the northwestern part of the country, state television reported.

Rescuers have been dispatched to the site, 250km northwest of Islamabad.

The plane, which took off from the Chaklala air base near capital Islamabad and was headed for Kohat in Punjab province, crashed due to bad weather, the report said.
