Swedish company to demonstrate Early Warning Air Defence System
ISLAMABAD (November 20 2004): Pakistan Air Force has been in pursuit for acquiring an Air Borne Early Warning Air Defence System since long to meet its air surveillance requirements. The issue was also raised by President General Pervez Musharraf during his visit to Sweden, says a press release.
Consequently M/s Saab of Sweden has offered a radar system developed by M/s Ericsson onboard Saab 2000 aircraft. In this context, Swedish Air Force would perform live demonstration of the system in Pakistan during the coming days.
The AEW&C systems have multifaceted aspects to be considered and PAF has not yet made a final decision regarding scope and extent of the procurement. These would mainly rest upon the outcome of the trials before making a final decision and hence no timetable could be anticipated in this regard.
