Panorama Terrace, AMS 23/5/06

Hi All,

A few days ago I did another one of my mad 4 flights in a day trips, flying LBA-AMS-LPL-AMS-LBA. Here are a few shots taken from the good old roof at AMS. Again I’ve reduced the quality of the file slightly to help those poor dial-uppers! Enjoy!

As I wandered around the various departure lounges I found an aquarium. A somewhat random thing to find in an airport but nonetheless quite cool. It’s a shame the most obvious thing in the second shot is my own reflection!

Incorrect, because 744F PH-CKA has the old KL/NW seal on it too.

Andy

No it does not. Saw it last sunday and it had full Skyteam logos.

April 17th last year I spotted the plane with the Skyteam logo. However, november 5th half of it had worn of revealing half a KLM/NW logo, so perhaps that is where the confusion comes from.

Excellent pictures – with spending time by the runways on each of my last visits to AMS, I’d forgotten how the deck had some pretty good photo opportunities too!

The first and third photo are interesting. The KLM 737 still has the old KLM/NW seal instead of the Skyteam logo. Only three planes still got them, all of them 737s.

Wow.. an excellent selection, but seeing that EVA Air 747 is making me cringe. What a crummy airline.

Paul – About dumping shots on your laptop, thought your memory card was more than big enough to not have to do that these days?

Tom, you know as well as anyone how random I am when I have a camera in my hand. Not even a 5 gig microdrive can handle my randomness when the camera’s set to RAW!

Next time, skip the AMS-LPL-AMS leg, and take the bus to the Kaagbaan for some proper spotting! A lot cheaper and well worth loosing two flights for!

Don’t worry, we will be doing that in August now I know what an awesome spot it is!

Peter is quite right, but you could also shoot in RAW format and sort out your white balance during post-processing.

It works (most of the time) for me! 😉

I’ve been playing about lately shooting in RAW but obviously (and probably stupidly!) Didn’t on that little trip because I could fit more on the memory card in JPEG. In hindsight I could’ve just dumped the shots onto my laptop whenever the card was full. Ah well… All things to bear in mind in the future!

A small tip for next time, if you use the manual white balance you can avoid the green tint.

Point the camera at something outside you know to be white (AF… strike that: CO, LH) and make a photo zooming in on the white part only. Then set the manual white balance. Now all photos will be taken with the white fuselage you just shot as a reference point. So anything you shoot outside will loose the green tint.

Of course you must remember to reset the white balance when you are outside again or shooting indoors. Otherwise the colors will be off. Peter is quite right, but you could also shoot in RAW format and sort out your white balance during post-processing.

Peter, had I have been thinking I’d have done that! Unfortunately I wasn’t but I’ll try remember next time!

Thanks everyone!

Hmm, I’m having trouble working out which is the reflection…

Oh come on it had to be said just as much as Grey Area had to say his fishy joke!

Great shots though mate, must must must get up there again this year!

Yeah they were taken from inside the terminal. They just had a bit of treatment in Photoshop to reduce the greeny-blue look the windows gave them!

Officially they are intended to relax people. However, I find their location next to the sushi shop rather dubious! 😉

Those last couple of shots were a bit fishy, though. Still, eel get the hang of it one day.

Damn, is it friday already?

Very nice photos, will be good to visit it this Summer.

Were the US Airways/Air Transat photos taken from there as well?

Crackers all of them, just like you Paul :p

Cheers Elgan!

Hmmm, some interesting stuff there. Including an EVA B747 that I need. 🙁

Oh dear! How long did it take you to come up with that one Lance?!

Thanks for your comments guys. Looking forward to the 30th August!
