It may sound like a daft question, but am I allowed to sell a parachute with all the strings attached? All the other ones I`ve ever seen for sale have had the chords cut off before disposal. Can I just get away with saying it`s sold as a collectable only and not for use?

There used to be an old military surplus shop in Hingham Norfolk. An Aladdins
cave of all sorts of second hand military clothing. He also had the odd
parachute there as well.
I can’t imagine anyone risking their lives with a parachute of indeterminate history.

Why not give it a go, you can always take it back if it fails to work. :diablo:

Used to scrounge old parachutes for my daughters junior school, the kids would have a great time with them (under supervision naturally) in PE lessons indoors.
I did however take the precaution of removing the cords, firstly to prevent a risk of one or more of the kids getting it wrapped around their neck & secondly, to prevent any budding ‘Franz Reichelt’s ‘ trying it out from the school roof (I know I would’ve at that age 😮 )

Thanks for the replies chaps, the chute looks like quite an old wartime pattern, but I don`t think it`s silk. It`s in nice condition, but I wouldn`t trust it…….I took it up to my kids school when they had `war week`,I deployed it in the playing field and it dragged me through a hedge….much to the kids amusement.:)

I think that you have to point out that the chute is out of time and give its age if you know. The last chute I bought, I bought for use as a sea anchor and it was sold to me with those conditions.
I used the Pilot chute on a 16 footer I used, did a good job. whilst fishing.

A long time ago now but with many jumps behind me I would not be so foolish as to use an Ebay Chute Xtype or PX especially The newest of those are at least 20 years old and god knows how they have been looked after. Still there are fools out there.
So hindenburg I would not sell it complete, but your call.

Be a shame to scrawl over the lovely white material…I`ll have a look on that web auction site. Thanks

Cannot see why not, plenty on eBay complete.. If worried you could get them to sign a disclaimer, make sure your advert states its not for use or indelible felt tip the outer cover with not for use training purposes only etc.

My guess would be that you could sell it but would you want to?
You never know where it may end up.
Similarly, I always cut the straps out of a crash helmet before i dispose of it–even down the local dump.
That way no one can fish it out and E-bay it.
Just my thoughts on it.
