Part off a bomb sight? If not, what is it?

And a Happy New Year to you all !

Found a few of these in my ongoing warehouse clearout just before Xmas – I checked the AP manual I have for Section 9 but it’s not listed.

Anyone able to ID it – or even better explain how it’s used and what aircraft it may have been fitted to? (clickable thumbnail)

Cheers

As always, thanks a million for the ID 🙂 Indeed it will be one or the other of the Beaus over here, suprising what keep turning up even now!

The other bit resting on top of the bars is an oil pressure transmitter and it has the aircraft number painted on the side – in this case a B24.

Cheers

Mirror, black, Mk IB, 20 in. radius, 9/2518.

Part of the Travelling Lamp Torpedo Sight.

Variously fitted in Wellington (and I assume Hampden), Barracuda, Beaufort and Beaufighter. I expect the latter two are your candidates.

Maybe for an aircraft or a Met cloud base searchlight? They both used mirrors which would have needed to have a firm mounting to reduce stress and damage…
