partial pass :-(

I hit the stumble in my flying career today.

Having passed the upper airwork and general handling about a week I go, I gave the navigation ago today.

I failed 🙁

never mind!

I took off from sywell on route to over head Droitwich, via birmingham control zone.

Took off and got settled in. lovely. Tuned over to Brumm APP 118.05, and god were they busy! With a northen approach path, I was heading striaght for.

After listening into god knows how many big airlines, I got my little call in! And he read back so much stuff so quick I missed the keep clear of controlled airspace! D’oh.

As i was approaching the boundry my examiner asked me what I was doing. I knew at this point I had gone wrong, only 20 mins in! Bugger.

So at the point he told me, and of course he had to fail me on that section.

I am redoing it again next week, only hope the weather is as good as it is today! I must say I am gutted, no realising that I could have planned a route around the control zone. But i have learnt. And with any luck I will get it right next time.

The only thing now is that it will look bad on my record, if I go for sponsourship etc in my career. Not happy! You really need to be A Class ++ for the big airlines, and I now know I am not cut for it. Ohh well back to reality! I will bloody get my wings one day!

Its the first thing I have failed anyway. So not bad.

See ya

With regards to the airlines – don’t worry, they’ll never know and even if they did they won’t give a hoot. One day I might just admit to some of the almighty cockups I made on my way to becoming an airline pilot!

And that’s half the battle won. With that attitude, I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine on the re-take.

All the best,

When I used to instruct I was always wary of pupils who never made mistakes because they missed all the opportunities to learn. These sorts of errors are really important as they give you the opportunity to learn valuable lessons and are a big help in avoiding complacency. What you have to realise is that the test was just another lesson and yet probably the very best lesson you have paid for so far.

With regards to the airlines – don’t worry, they’ll never know and even if they did they won’t give a hoot. One day I might just admit to some of the almighty cockups I made on my way to becoming an airline pilot!

Oi! Lighten up.

It isn’t the end of the world. There’s nobody here who hasn’t managed a similar foul-up or worse. I’ve got plenty more years experience than you and plenty more hours, yet I’ve still had to explain my way out of an airspace bust at Tolouse.

Stop beating yourself up about it.

As far as I know you aren’t required to show your training / exam records when you apply to an airline. The fact you’ve a PPL / IMC / and X number of hours is what they’ll be looking at.

Put it behind you.

Absorb the lesson learnt.

Go back to enjoying flying. 🙂

If it was easy they’d all be doing it.

Moggy
